Deary day at home

Posted at 2:33 pm under Uncategorized

Second day at home alone, and today it is very dreary with rain off and on all day.   Hopefully, I’ll be off the painkillers soon.

Does anyone know how to use the crutches so that they don’t hurt your palms as much?  They tell you not to lean on the crutches with your arm pits, however, when you put all your weight on your hands, your palms end up hurting alot after a few minutes of hopping around.

Try to hold your hands and wrist stiffly as if holding a tennis racket

Let your shoulders do the work…

I would also recommend padded cycling gloves. The fingerless variety if you have them

Eschao, Gloves definately, I use the padded cycling finger-less ones too and use them for all but the very shortest trip. Once a sore-spot starts to form it is very difficult to get rid of it. Don’t know what sort of crutches you have. Mine are the ‘elbow’ crutches where you have all your weight on your hands and there is a sort of plastic circle round the elbow, they don’t go up to my arm pits. I strained my shoulders initially so soon learned to keep my elbows close in to my sides, keep my body very upright and use my core strength right down my torso to hold myself. You’ll be amazed how quickly you build upper body strength. Good luck,
    Smoley
