It has been a very long time since I have posted. I am now 11 weeks post op and feel great. I have been out of the boot for 3 weeks and every week it gets better and better. Looking back it goes by very fast. I have a slight limp, but will start PT on the 13th (they’re a little backed up) and that should get rid of that. I have minimal swelling, complete range of motion, no pain, and no scar issues. I have been cleared to play golf and was able to stretch it far enough today to feel a good stretch in my calf. Anyway, I feel like I am very lucky to have had such a good experience thus far. I would say the biggest issue is the scar tissue around the achilles, but even that seems to be getting looser and going away a little bit. My goal is the one legged calf raise. Once I can do that I will feel like I’ve reached a milestone. I’m not sure if it helped or not, but I was in the boot the whole time and never in a cast. I have a friend that is two years post op and says that my leg looks like his after six months. I also have more range of motion. I think I am one of the lucky one’s. I hope that everyone is doing well on their journey. I will try to share some of my good luck with those that are struggling. Until next time…..keep your chin up.
Got my stitches out today. Scar is about 3 to 3.5 inches. Healed really nicely per the Physicians Assistant. I haven’t been out of the boot for 2 weeks and thought I would wash it. Also, got to take a shower and rub off some skin. Felt good to have water on it. Thought I would take the time for a photo opp. Anyway, looks good to me and feels really good.
The PA told me to stay NWB for 2 more weeks and then start walking on it. I go back in 4 weeks. I think I was more excited about the visit than they were. Not a lot of news. In and out in 15 minutes. I also took some time to move it around a little and get my ankle loosened up. Well, back in the boot I go.
The time goes by quickly if you set little goals. I am so glad my doc didn’t put me in a cast. I can get it to what I feel is 90 degrees. My goal is to play in our member-member golf tournament the second week of October. A lot of time between now and then, but hey, I’ve got the time.

This blog is so much better than watching TV. I am 6 days post op and everything seems to be going well. No pain and no meds. I am lucky that my doctor (Dr. Edward Holt in Annapolis, MD) put me in a boot post op. No weight for the first 4 weeks and then 4 more weeks in the boot. It doesn’t seem that bad after reading so many of the other “plaster stories”. Anyway, good luck to all. I will keep everyone up to date when I can. My first post op visit is on the 29th.
PS get a roll-about or other rolling device instead of crutches.
