9 weeks post op!! Swelling

Today is nine weeks post-op. I have been FWB for two weeks. I have gone from being able to only put my toes six inches back to walking with only a slight limp. From other posters, it appears I am doing well. My only problem is swelling. In the morning my foot is only slightly swollen, if at all, but by the end of the day it is double in size. My PT says that is ok and it will get better, but I don’t know if this is normal. The only pain I have is a good pain when i stretch. That has subsided a bunch. Anyone out there have some words on the swelling?

CAST IS OFF!!!!

Cast came off today. I am so thankful. Doctor said I could ditch the crutches which I promptly did. I am in a walking boot, but it feels better just walking bare foot. I was worried my foot wouldn’t bend to 90 degrees but it did. My calf is gone, but I know I’ll get it back. My first shower in over six weeks was a religious experience. My foot was NASTY! Anyway for those behind me in your recovery, just keep going. I feel like a new man today.

Shoe inserts?

I have seen several people mention inserts for their shoes that keep their heel up. Can someone provide some more info on them. As I mentioned, I’m about to get my cast off and don’t know if my foot will go 90 degrees.

Thanks,
Brad

3 days until the cast comes off!! Someone give me a hacksaw!

3 more days. I know I can make it. I have been hobbling around for two weeks without crutches. (Against doctor’s orders.) Foot will swell a little a night. Can’t wait for the boot and a nice warm shower!!

4 Weeks Post-Surgery 14 days until cast removal

I’m still in a hard cast with foot flexed at about 20-30 degrees. Last night I just got sick of not being able to use my hands so I tried walking with one crutch. No problem. Then I tried walking (more like shuffling) with no crutches. No problem. The only discomfort i feel is, I think, from my scar. This has really picked up my spirits. Sure was nice to get my own coffee this morning. Hope I’m not screwing up, but I have been injured enough to know when something is not right, and this feels ok as long as I don’t overdo it. Thanks for listening.

12 days post-surgery

Went to the doctor today and got my plaster cast removed.  What a scar!  Foot is still swollen and stiff.  I can imagine it will be worse when I get this second cast off on November 24th.  Kind of bummed out, as the reality of 34 more days in a cast is setting in.  I am continuing to try to work out, but it ain’t easy.  Got to keep going.

Hello everyone

Hello everyone,

I ruptured my tendon on October 2, 2009 while playing basketball at the Y.  I used to play in college, and play twice a week, so this has come as quite a surprise and a downer.  I had surgery October 8 and am back at work today.  With my foot propped on a chair or my desk.  Haven’t seen my doc yet, but am told I will remove my fist cast, which is plaster and heavy, next Tuesday.  not sure what to expect, but I don’t think I am coming out of a cast for 6-7 more weeks.  I have a 6 and 4 year old, and my wife is pregnant with a third.  On top of that, I just moved jobs.  Not good timing.  I have no idea how my procedure went, although my foot feels ok.  No swelling that I can tell.  Glad to be part of the group.  Wishing everyone a speedy recovery.

Brad
