The night before the surgery

Posted at 8:35 pm under Uncategorized

It’s the night before the surgery.  I got a call from the doctor that I need to use some anti-septic wash and a nasal cleanse because I came out positive for the staph test.   I got a chair for my bath tub, so that made things alot easier as far as washing.

I am thankful that everything as far as work and insurance should be no problem.   PTL.

The surgery is in the afternoon tomorrow, so I will show up a couple hours early.  Still not sure whether to do general or regional anesthesia … everyone here seems to do general (seems like its more b/c of the doctor or anesthesiologist), but local seems to be less impacting.

I asked for a regional but the surgeon said they’d do it only if I insisted, seems the general does a lot more for reducing the muscles - making them relax, and makes the surgeon’s job that much easier.

In the end I also think it was a lot more interesting coming out of the general than it would have been waiting for the regional to wear off. At least I got to sleep through the boring part and then try to figure out what was having a more interesting affect on my thought processes - the injury, the surgery or the anaesthetic.

Hope the surgery went well. This next week is as bad as it gets! Seriously, it is ALL good once you get your bearings and are used to getting around impaired. The individual blogs here are great. Remember most of the people here have no medical back ground. Take what you need and leave the rest.
Keep yourself busy - David Sedaris books are hilarious. Relax, this healing needs time. Don’t push it too hard. Leg lifts and sit ups, modified to your ability keeps your strength at a certain level, don’t over do it. Great time to take up meditation.
I was so pleased I did the spinal anesthesia. Woke up great, took a Morphine injection for the initial discomfort or fun, which ever. I found that the only pain I had was from a poorly adjusted splint. Took a few Darvocet any way.
    Good luck.

Thanks, I got the spinal as well. Overall, worked out well, though it took longer than I expected to regain the senses in my feet. Will definately spend much more time reading and in prayer.
