it’s back…..

Two Shoes!!!

December 17, 2009 · 1 Comment

so i’m finally hobbling around on two feet, i got the ok from the surgeon on monday. i still have a very bad limp, and have been going to therapy 3x a week and stretching out my foot whenever possible. i still need to take it easy going up the stairs going up to my apartment and if i’m walking a distance my one leg tires easily. at the gym i’ve graduated from the stationary bike to one of those elliptical machines. i guess there is light at the end of the long dark tunnel of an atr.

furthur festival shenanigans

this is the view from the balcony on  wednesday night for the furthur festival, & i can’t believe there isn’t any other ‘heads around here.  i still think it’s amazing so many people see you struggling around still using a crutch and try to lend you a hand. made me forget i was in nyc again.

another dr visit in two weeks, hopefully the wound is healed from the 2nd surgery by that time, still no infection which is good. until then i’ll keep on changing bandages daily

Cheers!

Full Weight Bearing!!

December 7, 2009 · 3 Comments

so i’m finally fwb!! it seems like it’s taken forever to get this far. had another dr. apt this morning, and it went well. no need to see a plastic surgeon for the wound repair, i was a little nervous about that. it’s still not completely healed, but the other 3 stitches came out, and i have to see the orthopedic again in a week so he check on the progress.

i’m not going to tell a lie, but i was a little nervous taking those first steps all on my own w/o a crutch. i wasn’t really walking, i’d call it hobbling. i still need it for the 4 flights of stairs in my building, and it’s comforting to take if i know i have to walk a distance. slow and steady is what the surgeon told me, so i’ll take his word for it. it looks like two more months of therapy before i’m back to work, so i’ll just enjoy it for now. furthur is at the hammerstein for two nights this week, and that’s going to be a blast……till next time

it’s not looking good for the home team

December 2, 2009 · 1 Comment

so doc apt on monday wasn’t very promising. i had five stitches total, and only two were removed. i had to skip out on therapy for the week, but i can go back this week. if the incision doesn’t heal up any better by next week i’ll be going to see a plastic surgeon to repair it. at least it’s not infected.

on the brighter side of life i’ll be making both furthur shows in the city next week + got seats for both of their radio city shows in feb!

minor setback

November 23, 2009 · 2 Comments

so i new this was coming from about a week ago. the incision from my surgery didn’t heal properly in one spot, and it wasn’t getting any better. at my last doctor’s office visit the surgeon recommended that i have outpatient surgery to fix it. real quick procedure under local anesthesia, maybe took half an hour tops. didn’t feel a thing besides the three shots to numb me up, and i really didn’t want to look over the blanket on my chest to see what he was doing. but from what he told me he had to cut me back open, flush out the gash, and stitch me back up….now i’m back on two crutches for the week, and no physical therapy until the stitches come out. the wound is painful again but i guess that’s why i have more pills.

i went out sunday afternoon to watch the giants almost lose….again. my friend’s sister was like “OMG, how much longer are you going to milk this injury for”!?! i just looked at her and said “are you kidding me”. at least today i received a phone call and apology, which i wasn’t looking for.

Finally on one crutch

November 19, 2009 · No Comments

So the doctor’s visit yesterday was promising. Starting using one crutch and finally got cleared to go back to the gym. No running or jumping was made very clear to me, even though I couldn’t if I tried. So I got out to the gym this morning and actually made it on a bike for 45 minutes and at pretty decent pace. He also recommended that the physical therapists start a more aggressive stretching program. Only bad thing is that the wound is not healing properly, so I’m going to have a small outpatient procedure done at the hospital. Due to the swelling, the skin wasn’t able to seal in one spot, so he’s just going to have to make a small incision and stitch it back up. I guess you can’t win ‘em all.

I’m still going to be out of work until mid January or the February at the latest. So I’ve sent a few emails out this morning to a few non-profits that I’ve donated to before to see if I could be of any help.

1 1/2 weeks

November 14, 2009 · No Comments

so i’ve been without a hard cast for a week and a half, after being immobilized for six weeks, and i’ve been to four physical therapy sessions. i still have very limited range of motion in my injured foot, but it’s better than before. This is starting to become very frustrating. i know the road to a full recovery is a very long one, but this seems like it’s a little to much. ughhh, maybe i just needed to vent

wow, it’s been a rough 7 weeks

November 9, 2009 · 2 Comments

ok so i had a distal rupture, on sept 26. my achilles tendon had been bothering me for some time, but like a typical male…just ignore a problem and it goes away. it blew out while i was playing ultimate frisbee with some friends in a park on a nice saturday afternoon. i was running along and next thing i was on the ground, i though someone had tripped me. i looked around ready to call “shenanigans!” but not a soul was around me. i looked at my heel, and it looked deformed, new what happened right away. went to the e.r., a hospital was right down the road. the orthopedic on duty told me he could do the surgery in a few hours, or he could put me in a splint & crutches, send me home, and wait a few days for the swelling to go down to have surgery. i ended up having surgery that night. i wasn’t in a lot of pain until i woke up in the middle of the night at the hospital. i got out the next morning, and ended up staying with family 1 1/2 hours away from home. i still ask myself why i moved into a fourth floor apartment with no elevator in the building. first two weeks were very painful, i just stayed in bed popping pills every four hours.

i just got the cast off last wednesday, the 4th of november. started p.t. that friday, i’m still nervous about putting any weight on my injured foot, but i have been doing the stretches.

going up to the fourth floor in my building takes a lot of patience. i’m so glad the supermarkets deliver around here.
