so the stitches from the z-plasty are staying in for another week. the back of my leg looks like dr. frankenstein sewed it together. stitches will be in place for a month before i get them out, i’m just looking forward to starting therapy again and getting back on the road to recovery.

So Feb 12 will be a significant happy day for at least 2 people I know: you will have the stitches out and my daughter will have her braces off (after 2.5 years) !
Yeah, the spam word tells it all: courage! Nearly there.

I know what you mean about how Z-plasty looks. I refer to it as looking like I was operated on by a chain saw. Before I had the Z-plasty the surgeon said 3 weeks before removing the sutures and 2 weeks post-op he said he might leave them in for 4 weeks. He did take them out at 3 weeks because he was afraid he would have serious difficulty removing them if he waited another week. Hang in there, it will be worth it to not have a hole in your leg. Any drainage?

GerryR–
i’ve been changing the dressing daily now and haven’t noticed any drainage. it just looks very scabby with a lot (and i mean a lot) of stitches. the plastic surgeon had me on bactrin for a little over a month. i’m hoping that cleared the infection up.
operated on by a chainsaw! LOL (i really am)
that has to be the funniest thing i’ve heard all week.
cheers!

If you don’t have any drainage, you should be good to return to PT after you get the sutures out.
