it’s back…..

Another week of having stitches

February 17, 2010 · 3 Comments

my last visit with the plastic surgeon, which was the 11th of feb, he thought it would be better to keep the some of the stitches in for another 10 days. he took 1/2 of them out but left the ones in the middle of the Z in. still no drainage, and i’m back to hobbling around with one crutch. still can’t start therapy until all of the stitches are out, hopefully that will happen at my next visit on the 23rd. i’ve already scheduled an appointment with my ortho on the 25th so i can get back to PT.

Wow, I think you’re setting a record here for the length of time sutures are in place. I hope you get the rest of them out at your next appointment.

Me too. My calf is withering down to nothing. It’s going to take some time to get it back up to strength.

I work in the energy policy and energy conservation field (in Toronto), and one of the big challenges with introducing more efficient boilers, furnaces, and hot-water heaters is that the customers don’t give the gizmo a second’s thought until it breaks. Then, it’s an emergency, and the customer buys whatever the repair guy has on the truck! And the repair guys tend to do the same thing they did 5, 10, or 20 years ago, so nothing changes quickly.
ATR “cures”seem to go the same way, especially in the States. We’re all becoming experts LONG AFTER we made the decision to get surgery or not, and which doctor and hospital (etc.) would handle our “cure”.
Doug53 here has pretty much convinced me that surgery (and quick rehab) might be able to trim a week or two off the quickest times for the best non-surgical cure — if everything goes just right. But the “cost” when things go badly seems really exorbitant. I’m sorry that both of you are paying that price, and I hope you both find a speedy solution.
