so i’m still nonweight bearing, at least until the stitches come out. he said it looked like it was healing fine…and that i had a nasty infection of something i couldn’t pronounce…during the z-plasty he cleaned it up and i’ll be on bacitrin for a least another 10 days, the wound area is much larger then before.. he said he needed to make it larger than normal in order to be able to use good skin…

gerryr…it’s not just one Z, its more of a zigzag, i have pics of after hard cast came off…before 2nd surgery with orthopedic…after 2nd surgery…and after z plasty…a little on the graphic side so i’ll spare everyone from posting it on here.

oh yeah it will be at least 3 to 4 weeks after surgery till the sutures are out

anyone going to the allman brothers march run this year?

I think all plastic surgeons must do the “zigzag” thing. I was told a minimum of 3 weeks and possibly 4, but the sutures came out at 3 because he was worried he would have trouble removing then if he waited.

I’m not surprised you had an infection and really suspected as much because you were experiencing the same problem I had. You may have even had the same bug, interrobacter cloacae. I took Bactrim for 4 weeks but it all seems to be fine now.

just wondering, were you not allowed to walk on your foot while it was healing? this plastic surgeon made it clear to me that i would be non weight bearing while it is healing.

I was NWB from August 24 until October 28 when he sutures were removed. Then I was PWB for about a week and then FWB. So, yes I was NWB after the Z-plasty but then I had been for quite some time before. They don’t want you to put any stress on that new incision, and I can tell you that it is no fun to have a suture rip out. That happened to me years ago and it was really painful.

looks like i’ll take the doctor’s orders and stick with the crutches….just so disappointing to start PT and then have to put it on hold for a month…i guess it just wasn’t in the cards this hand
