Foot Swollen and “Warm”
I had the cast removed on Monday (five days ago) and I think I’ve done great since then. I am FWB although I’ve been using crutches to help stabilize my movements around the house. My only problem, if it is one, is that my foot came out of the cast swollen (not grotesquely so) and a little bruised. I thought this was a little odd after six weeks but my doctor didn’t seem worried. Now after five days post-cast my foot is still swollen more than I thought it would be and it seems a little warmer than usual. I don’t know if this is in my head or what. I wonder what the “normal” feeling should be like after five days of no cast. My next appointment isn’t until 10 days from now and PT starts in three days. Hopefully I’ll get a better idea of what my foot should be like then. I hate to cry :wolf” without a reason, but I do have a little concern.

Hi! Im 19 weeks post op. now. My injuried foot is still swollen, especially in the afternoon. I have not experienced sensation of warmth, but my right foot is noticably more red coloured than the left. I’ve had progress, but it’s slow. My doctor has told me that all seems fine - it just takes time and a lot of patience. Good luck!
Best wishes
Raoul
Hi Raoul,
Thanks for the comment, it was very helpful. I suspect the warmth may be because of the boot continually protecting my foot. When I take it off twice a day to put lotion on it I “air” it out for awhile and then it seems to cool off after awhile. I guess I just wasn’t as ready to see my foot as I thought!

Denny
Denny, I had bruising when the cast came off, it was noticeable and I asked my consultant about it. He said it was normal. I’ve also had some sharp pains in my calf and a kind of burning at the injury site; again my consultant said this was OK provided the pain was manageable by myself. The pain should go away if I rest and take some pain killers. My foot feels warmer, especial at the injury site. No idea why though, could be the healing process? Or the work the foot is doing after a few weeks of not moving?
All the best Steve
I’m almost 7 weeks post op and have been walking in the boot for 5 days. Since I picked up walking again, my foot is always hot, seems to have a tough time regulating its temparature. Not sure if it is from the still swollen ankle or building up calloused skin on my toes/heels/etc from walking again. The skin on my toes are too sore from walking to even wear socks. Annoying to have a constantly sweaty foot. I’ll ask the therapist about it tomrrow at PT.
Hi, interesting post. I have been pondering this issue,so thanks for sharing. I will certainly be subscribing to your blog. Keep up the good work
