3 weeks post surgery but who’s counting…
Aug 12th, 2008 by catnboot
Since this is my second time for ATR surgery they are being very careful. I am in a cast for the next two weeks and maybe if I am a very good girl they will let me go back to the boot. Suppose I should change my name to catncast.
I have a word of warning. The PA told me that they had a patient (impatient patient) that thought the cast meant nothing could hurt his foot. So he went walking on it outside on the grass. I think he did some running also. And you guessed it — re-rupture. Another guy tried climbing the stairs two at a time when he was in the two shoes stage.
They want me to be paranoid but not too paranoid. Reminds me of the Homeland security warnings - orange means sit high in the saddle but not too high and red means sit higher in the saddle but go about your business as usual.
I have found that Whole Food has a personal shopper service. Once you sign up you can either order on the phone or internet and call the personal shopper when you get to the parking lot and she will bring it out to you! I’ll bet other upscale grocery stores will do this also.
Another tip I have is if you are sitting at home drinking wine –remember that if you are on the floor scooting around on your butt you can’t fall down. I have two dogs and they love this game.
I also go up and down stairs on my butt whether I am drinking or not. I am all into reducing risk.
I do have one question — does anyone have experience with the knee walker? Any tips on which ones are good — is rental better than purchase? Has anyone ordered one over the internet and been happy?
Glad to hear you are progressing! After my first op, I was PWB in 16 days. This time, I waited until Week 8. They don’t have to warn me…I’m not going through this AGAIN. Keep up the good work.
Thanks. I was wondering when PWB might be a good idea. I think I trust the wisdom of you guys more than the doctor’s . What I mean is I would rather take the conservative road. Well, 8 weeks means I’ll be there in 5 weeks.
I looked into the knee walker or roll about as it is sometimes called. It won’t work unless you have someone with you to put it in the car. Or you just use it at home.
I was cleared to PWB after 6 weeks but decided (after discussion with the doctor) to wait two more weeks to err on the side of caution.
Hiya. I just got back from the doc for my 4 week postop. I went to 90 degrees and 3 more weeks NWB. Much more conservitive than the first time. Stay positve! Matt
