I found this information on the website for The Institute for Foot & Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy.
What I found most interesting was their contempt for the 8 inch scar method of surgery most of us have had, and their accelerated recovery regimen. What do you think - is this the future of achilles repair?
Here is [...]

Saw the surgeon yesterday for my 6 week check up. He was really pleased with the healing, tested my achilles out and pronounced me ready to move to the next level.
He wanted to get me straight into shoes but I didn’t feel ready to let go of the boot just yet. He told me to [...]

I have been in a comfort zone for the past few years. Cruising in my job, but secretly bored senseless, taking my marriage for granted, and generally living without goals and purpose.
But this injury has changed all that. I’ve been evicted from the comfort zone. My waking dream has been interupted. I am forced to [...]

This healing process really is a roller coaster ride. Somedays I’m doing great, feeling positive, mature, and using my time productively. But other days, like last night, I truly lose it. Just snap into nutcase mode, and start swearing and flinging my crutches around. I can tell you, my hospital issue crutches are remarkbly strong, [...]

How long after the operation does it take for the calf muscle to be able to flex the foot again? I am 3 weeks out, and still when I take off the boot and try to move my foot downwards, there is nothing there - no oomph in the muscle at all! Is this normal? [...]

Hey everyone, though I’d check in with a quick progress report:
Its been 3 weeks now since the injury and 17 days post-op. I’m pretty encouraged by how well my wound is heeling, and even better, little signs of movement in the calf muscle as I try to point my foot downward.
I’ve started taking off the [...]
