Razvan’s ATR recovery

Hurrah! Pain is finally gone. I have been off the painkillers for a week and all I am battling now is swelling and the desperate urge to shatter my cast and move my foot. Alas, I wait patiently…

My doc is a conservative fellow and has put me in a cast for the first 8 weeks (maybe 7 if things go well).

I had a pretty bad rupture according to him so he wants me to heal properly before we try to reintroduce  Weight Bearing…

I am moving to London in mid Jan ( ie 9 weeks from now) and I was hoping to hear from some of you that have been in a cast mainly, how long it took you to walk resonably (without the aid of a crutch and intravenous morphine)?

My doc reckons I will be able to walk 10-12 weeks post op but I would like to harvest some real life data…

Hi guys/gals - Sorry to meet you via this horrid injury but hopefully we can help eachother along…

I ruptured left AT last Tuesday (21 Oct 2008), I had the op a day later. I did not know much about ATR prior to the fateful day so I did not really get to hear many surgical options from my surgeon. I don’t know if I have had the full length cut or the incisions. I am in a fibreglass cast right now and will be seeing the doc tomorrow morning (day 7). He will look at the cut, check for infection, and then we decide what to do.

I am 28, active, play squash, cricket and run. Did my first half marathon 10 days prior to rupture. I ruptured it playing squash… I hear the snap, it still gives me shivers…

Post op, my lovely wife has been doing the caring bit, food, washing, pain meds and moral support.

I am not in much pain, have kept foot up for 6 days now. 3 trips to loo per day. My toes turn purple and my foot feels like exploding after 5 min standing so I will be doing more lying down…

Will know more tomorrow… Just saying howzit for now
