Went back in to see my Doc today. Got out of the hard cast and into a bledsoe boot…but not exactly the news that I was looking for.. he stated that the wound, etc. looked fine..I hoped that I would be starting physical therapy..but instead I have to wear this boot for a month, only taking it off to bathe, sleep–you’ll know the drill….he says that I could be in the boot for another 3 months…unbelievable..
10 weeks post op
Hello world!
I am 35 yrs old and live in Russellville, TN. I have always been very active in sports(basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, etc.) Anyway I hadn’t played basketball in awhile until Feb 19th. Tore my right achilles tendon, went to the wlk in clinic that evening and had surgery on the 21st. Went back to the Doc 11 days later and got the first hard cast put on, he stated that the wound look good and all was well..Went back 4 weeks later, thought I was going into a walking boot, but no such thing-he just said everything looked fine and put me in another hard cast. I was completely bummed out to say the least. But they couldn’t get my foot to 90 degrees that day so I got to return 3 days later for another stretch and a new cast at 90 degrees. Was that initial stretch fun for everyone or what?
My surgeon is reportedly one of the best in the area, treats all the University of Tennessee athletes, etc etc. But he seems to have very very conservative approach to this injury. Maybe because of the fact that I work at UPS as a driver, he is being overly cautious. I only wish that I would have found this site earlier, it would have been useful from the get go.
