Here’s my leg at 4.5 weeks post-op. I don’t know if his “inside” work is great or not yet, but the dude can sew. Looooong … but pretty.
I have seen some HORRIFIC scars from ATR victims who reach out to me when they see me hobling around in my boot. Some real Frankenstein stuff, like my 8-year-old [...]

First Outside Bike Ride
August 30, 2009 | 5 Comments
Could not face the stationary bike and Ted Kennedy coverage this morning, so I hopped on the mountain bike and rode around the neighborhood for 33 minutes. Beautiful day - there’s just something about getting outside for a little fresh air and exercise. It wasn’t much as far as workouts go, but at this point [...]

Is anyone else cheating? Am I going to regret this?

3 weeks post op. One week in a half-cast, 2 weeks now in a boot on crutches.
I find myself more and more hobbling around (on the heel of my injured leg) without the crutches. Nothing too crazy, just 10 steps here and there when I cannot bear to deal with my crutches. No pain whatsoever.
Anyone else cheating?

Good to Sweat Again

20 minutes on a stationary bike today + leg lifts. Shocked at how much weaker the achilles leg is than my good one after only 3 weeks.
PT gave me the green light to ride as much as I want (in the boot). I’ll shoot for 45 minutes a day, 3-4 times a week plus some leg [...]

Big News! 2nd Post-op visit with Doc
August 12, 2009 | 3 Comments
Surgery was 2 weeks ago tomorrow. A little more swelling, but all is good … blah, blah, blah
The big news is … he wants me in the pool swimming this weekend! No pushing off , use a pull buoy and all that, but I GET TO EXERCISE! That’s huge!
I have to admit, in reading some [...]

Do you plan to do all the sports you did prior to the ATR? Do you think it’s worth risking this again?

get a handicapped parking permit to hang from your rearview mirror. I got one last week from the DMV (my doc had all the paperwork) and it’s a lifesaver. 6 months until it expires, hopefully I’ll be jogging from my regular parking space by then!

1st Post-op visit with Doc
August 5, 2009 | 3 Comments
Surgery was 6 days ago. The partial cast came off today and I’m in the boot. Why in the heck do some docs have people in casts for months at a time? I had a pretty involved surgery and I’m out in 6 days.
Stopped taking the pain meds after 4 days, no ibu either - on [...]
