FWB!

September 28th, 2008 | Uncategorized |

I’ve reached a milestone!

I haven’t used a crutch in over 48 hours other than to the grocery store yesterday, because I walk pretty damn slow with my splint on.

The walking is getting easier every day, and the tendon doesn’t really get too sore.  My heel does, though, as I’m not able to wear shoes under my splint.  I have been able to strap the splint over a slipper, which gives me a little protection against the hard tile floors in my house.

Today is actually the 6 week anniversary of the incident.  I think I’ll feel more like celebrating when I have my 4, 6 or 12 month one, though.

Question for the vets out there.  When my foot is at 90 degrees or maybe stretched just a bit farther, my tendon feels as if it’s stretched as tight as a guitar string.  How does the progress go as far as getting that tendon to stretch over time, and how soon can I look forward to walking someawhat normally?

Short post, today, gotta go back to watching the Raiders kick San Diego’s tail (It’s still the first half as of this writing).

Shelley, you beat me to FWB, nice one.  I’m gonna try my best to catch up, though!

Keep up the hard work everyone.

Steve

  1. Steve,
You are making awesome progress, and very quickly…I’m 16 weeks, and really have to stretch throughout the day because of that tight feeling you describe. I wonder the same thing– how long does it take to get the tendon stretched, so it’s not something you are constantly feeling when walking. I think you are at an advantage, as you are able to FWB at 90 degrees using the splint. I was in a cast for 6 wks. with NWB and it has been a real struggle for me to get my foot to 90 degrees w/shoes…still using one crutch.
Glad your Raiders surprised SD….sad about Green Bay….I couldn’t find the Cal game on TV yesterday, even though it was listed to be shown :( very mad about that. Will watch the Eagles with DeShawn Jackson tonight….
Congrats on your progress…..I’m really glad things are going well.
    Go Bears !!!

  3. Marianne-

I had to put that disclaimer in there that it was still the first half. I’ve been a Raider fan too long to know the potential for them choking a sure thing is always there. Anyways, thanks for the kind words. By the way the Cal game was great, and I caught it on the Comcast Sports North West channel on Direct TV. Now its time to beat up on some Pac10 enemies.

  4. Steve-

I have the Comcast Sports North West channel also, but down here they showed the Oregon vs. Washington St. game. It was strange because the Cal website posted it as being on TV….weird that you got to see it. I’m worried about Jahvid Best….we can’t lose him now!!! No surgery, but he’s not expected to play until the Oct. 18th game….
Looking forward to Saturday’s game vs. Arizona St.

  5. Steve,
    Congrats on your progress.
Life gets so much easier without crutches, eh?
Just realized I typed “eh”. Go ahead and make fun. LOL
My heel gets sore as well, not the tendon. Don’t know why…
    Good luck.
    Shelley
