37 weeks and finally played basketball again
December 1st, 2009
Well, I did it. I set my original goal to be back on the court at 9 months. Tonight I joined the local pick up game and played for about an hour. I am still a little tentative in making quick moves but did not have much problem keeping up with the other guys. Achilles is a little sore and tired right now. But the smile on my face makes me forget about the little discomfort. I was told throughout this process to give up hoops….I vowed to play again. Now I need to keep working to get back to where I was before the dreaded AR night. Good luck to all hoopsters out there, keep working and stay positive, If you want to play again..you will. I have a real game tomorrow night in a tough league, will report back after the game.

Love to hear news like this!
Enjoy the game. I keep thinking gazillion of 40 somethings do sports and do not rupture their tendon - so it must have been a freak accident. But I will sure listen to my body better, but no need to give up the game.

Man this was a real inspiring read that i needed today! i’m at week 22 and starting to wonder when/if i’ll ever be able to play. i realize that everyone heals different, but not being able to play is killing me. Congrats on your progress and enjoying the game again!

“I have a real game tomorrow night in a tough league, will report back after the game,” followed by six days with no report. I hope you are okay! Lots of us recovering hoopers are rooting for you.

Congrats. I tore mine playing hoops and I returned to play after 32 weeks, just last week, not really intense yet, but I felt fine overall. Just getting out into competitive play put a smile on my face also. Only my friends and relatives discouraged my from returning to basketball, doctors and therapists said okay, once I recovered sufficiently. I guess I have. And yes, there definitely is a psychological component to all this.
