8 weeks and played 18 holes today

1st goal accomplished!!!!!!
to all golfers out there…it is exactly 8 weeks since the ATR, I went out today with one of my best friends and played 18 holes with the boot on. I was expecting a lot of pain and to see my single digit handicap to disappear for quite awhile. Well I am happy to report that I had no pain and actually swung the club pretty well. Did not lose any distance on my irons and with the driver I was about 10 yards shorter than before injury. I said to myselft this morning that I would just be happy to be out there and did not care what my score was….and this time unlike other times I was actually telling the truth and not trying to fool myself. Well I am happy to report that I shot 82 with two doubles….seem to be the talk of my club now since some of the members got a glimpse of my crazy boot. I was disappointed when I originally got injuredthat is was my right leg, well as golf goes it seems you really don’t need the right leg much. In fact, my right leg swung out most of the time when I hit my driver. So to all golfers just starting the journey, 8 weeks and you are back.

Awesome, today is 4 weeks post op for me, and my 1st question to the Doc was when can I play golf again. It’s in my left foot, and I get my Cast off on Wed. I’m sure I will have Atrophy in my quad, leg, calf, so will need to start PT and REHAB! I am a 7 handicap, but I am scared I will be bad, lost yardage and swing as bad as Tiger did yesterday
Your Post gave me hope that I can play before the US OPEN or Fathers Day. That is my goal, so hope I can. Any exercises or things you did to get things moving quicker to recovery?

ruthless, I too am a 7 handicap and I too expected to stink. But as you know the short game is so much a part of being a 7. You like me probably scramble pretty good. I found my swing was slower which helped to eliminate my normal pull. I did not do anything special for golf other than since this was my right foot I concentrated on staying on my left side. This worked out good for me as I sometimes get quick at the top and never clear my hips, this hanging back and hitting the tee ball right. Anyway, you asked me a specific question and I am rambling on about my poor swing mechanics. Ironically my partner is 1 handi and he only beat me by one shot today. I since my injury have continued to work out my upper body. I have started PT and I am working on some strength exercises. With you injuring your left I am sure the tendency will be to hold off on transfering your weight so you will probably have to get used to playing a fade. When you do get out trust me, you won’t care what you shoot… you will just be happy to be out there again. And as we both know, 90% Of the game happens between the ears. Keep up your positive attitude and please let me know when you get to enjoy your first round I had targeted my first round to be May 28th, that is my birthday. So I am a few weeks ahead of schedule.

Congrat to all the golfers who worked hard to get out there. Me too, just with the rain would go away so I could get some more rounds in. Made more birdies when I first went out then I am now!! Golf, what a game!

So how is the golf game? Better? More importantly, healing well?
I still can not walk, got the walking boot 5/13, and have crutches…I agree with you on golf…Left leg does more than right, and I too have that draw, sometimes pull/hook, get quick.
I probably will play better with a power fade, and slower tempo. I have fast hips, and usually put a lot of leverage through my front foot at impact. Now I’m starting to think I need to redo my swing…I’d be happy to just walk right now
Doctor told me no golf til 8/14(4 months after surgery)…so that sucks. Did you get cleared by the doctor? I am doing range of motion exercises, anything else you advise so I can get out there faster? Happy Bday to you this week as well!
