Well I have been walking with my boot for about 2 weeks. I had a Dr. visit this week he said, “I usually  tell people to ditch the crutches but you are walking so, I guess that’s out”. He then said in couple weeks when I feel comfortable to go into shoes, he said around 10-12 weeks from surgery. I guess the tendon is fully healed at that point. He said no PT unless I really I wanted it. I said no thanks, I have been seeing my sports chiro for a few weeks. The chiro is kicking my butt. He doing Graston massage (that really helps scar tissue), Active release on the tendon, laser treatment and russian stem for calf atrohpy. I am seeing him once a week and it is really helping. The Dr. liked that and further stressed PT was not necessary due to the chiro visits. Lastly the Dr. said to do stationary bike in sneakers and also to do heel raises (putting most of the weight on the good foot). I have trying it and I am putting a little more weight everyday. ( i really mean a little weight)

I went to the gym and did the stationary bike for 20 min. I am trying to go everyother day, I need to work out!! I forget how important it is for me to get a good cardio sweat, it really helps me out mentally. This laying around crap kills me. I was glad to hit the gym and get my heart rate upto 130 (watch out) on the bike.

All in all it is going pretty good. Can’t wait for shoes!!

Thanks to everyone who posts it always helps.

    Hi Mario,

I was just reading your blog. I’m at about the same timeframe you are at. I ruptured mine on 8/4/08 playing b-ball. My docs been a little more conservative then your doc. I just got the boot last thursday and was given the ok for fwb but have been a little apprehensive seeing all the blogs about other people being frightened or afraid of re-rupturing. I’m a little apprehensive because I ran track in college and still continue to compete and I just ran the L.A. marathon in March so I want to return to full competition so I’m following my docs exact instructions though I see others who are already walking sooner then me. But, I’ll follow my docs advice and stick to the program. Take care and keep with it.

    Jesse/Mario –

Thanks for the updates. I had my surgery 8/12/08 and will not get cast off/boot on until 10/3. Obviously my doctor is conservative in his approach. I, too am worried about re-rupture but I am also eager at getting through this. Any suggestions?

    Mario/Corey,

Mario got your email. I actually took the dive and ditched the crutches last night and walked in my house without them. I didn’t feel any strain or pain my operated leg just felt a little tired after a while. My focus is like you said is build up my calf/leg muscles and progress at my own rate. I too know my body’s physical limits and I think I was being a little wimpy until last night. Leg feels fine today I’m just not trying to over do it because I know my calf muscle and other muscles are gone so I have to take my time.

Corey - I would follow your doctors instructions and listen to your body. As Mario and I understand your frustration we both are used to being active and competing at a high level but this is something we all can’t afford to cut corners. My best approach was to take it a week at a time.

Talk to you guys later. Feel free to email when you have time.

    Hey Mario,

I thought I’d drop by and see how things are improving for you. I’ve started walking around a lot with out using the crutches. I kind of wish I’d been a little more agressive early on because my leg muscles are toast!! I was going to ask you if after walking all day does your repaired ATR feel soar?? My ATR feels a little soar and I foot’s a little discolored. I think it’s from all the pressure and walking. Well I’ll let you go take care.

    Jesse
