Is Surgery a Geographical Consideration?

As I read these blogs I am beginning to get the impression that the conservative approach is taken much more often outside the United States. Maybe I’m not interpreting the comments correctly, but it seems that is the case. In my particular case (Ann Arbor, Michigan) there was no question that surgery would be done. In fact, the non-surgical approach was never an option even given to me.
Recent posts about re-rupturing got me to thinking about this. Personally I can’t imagine accepting the “Conservative” approach after hearing about the re-rupture rates. What does everyone else think?

I am in South Louisiana…I have been in an “air boot” for 30 days, and will see my Ortho in another week. Seems that the insurance companies are pushing the surgeons to make an effort towards the “conservative” approach, but my Ortho wanted me to try it for 30 days. He seemed to feel that I would have surgery anyhow…so, seems like insurance companies are driving the protocol for healthcare.
