No harm done
After freaking out for a good 24 hours, I went in to see the doctor, who graciously sawed off the cast to reveal nothing short of an intact Achilles. Phew. Funny, as soon as he said I was fine, it stopped hurting! Think I need to calm down a little?! The chic urban black cast is unfortunately long gone. They ran out of the black wrapping, and so I’m back in standard off-white. I think this will require a new pedicure to match! The white is not as fun, but I think that it’s better than the black. It looks so serious, and the black looked kinda fun. Maybe the serious white cast will slow my ass down even more, which apparently I need to do.
My mom is gone, my sister’s gone, my visiting friend is gone, so tonight is my first night back alone in my apartment since the surgery. I’m so glad I went and got checked out today by the doc so I know everything is on target and doing well. Otherwise, I’m hoping I can do this without constant help! A friend took me grocery shopping today, and it’s a light week at school, so I think the rest of the week should be smooth, and hopefully a good transition back into a little bit of independence.

Good news, and a relief to know that you are okay since your helpers are gone. I hope you have a good week.

That is good news. Re-ruptures are really uncommon when casted. Most re-ruptures happen during the rehab recovery stage and out of the cast. And you’re right, white casts do give that, “I’m seriously hurt” look to an injury.
Feel better,

Hey, so when do we get to see pics of the new white leg attire. Just because you have a lame color, doesn’t mean you can’t post pics lol.
My shi*loon. Don’t be too happy / relieved that we are all gone. Who is going to rub those tosies for you? I love you!
Good news. Better get used to going slowly… it is the same when you are out of plaster!
Alfia,
Glad to hear that everything is okay! It’s definitely good to slow down though. I broke my leg on my honeymoon and was in a long leg cast for 12 weeks. After being in it for a couple of weeks I desperately wanted to be”normal” again and I got a little less cautious when I was going down the stairs and I fell. Like everyone has said, the cast usually does a good job of protecting the injured limb, but other limbs might not be so lucky…my leg cast protected my injured leg, but I broke my wrist in the process….AAAGGGHH! Talk about making life challenging! Anyway, I learned my lesson and as much as it sucks to have to ask people for help, it is so much better than risking hurting yourself more! Hope you’re feeling better!
Heather
I knew that it would stop hurting as soon as the doc said all was well. The fruit doesn’t fall from the tree. (or something like that)
I will reiterate what your sister said, don’t be too glad that we’re all gone. Having someone at your beck and call is, after all, an amazing luxury and one that you got used to fairly quickly. Now that I think about it, it was something that you were quick to take advantage of even before your poor achilles tore!
Take care of yourself and tack down that damn carpet.
I’ll be back soon.
xo,

Al,
You crack me up. Of course you had her take the cast off. You have not changed at all since you left SF. Thank the Lord! I miss you. Peter and I may be coming to NY for the Woodruff event on Nov. 5th. If we do, we will stay with your mom and dad. Although they don’t know that yet (Hey Maria, if you reading this we are staying with you possibly in early November). When we go out there, we will have Guy take us to that Italian place he raves about, OK? Speaking of Guy, where is his email on this blog? I mean J. Lo’s husband even emails you for chrissakes. Love you sugar. xoxoxo
