just curious if any come accross any instances where this has happened to a parent as well. be interested to know thanks as the identical injury ( same leg ) stuck my dad ( although he was dancing the greek way not the abba way)
Hi abbavick,
Perhaps you should give up the dancing in your family.
I wouldn’t think it would ‘run in the family’ but you never know. It’s certainly worth posing the question to see if it has happened before.
Presumably your Dad is OK now.

Well, my brother ruptured his, so I believe that there is some genetic predisposition. (My other brother is very worried about rupturing one of his!)
But, who knows, no one seems to be really sure about who gets this and why.
interesting- i will have to ensure my sisters take some professional dancing tuition before the next family function, so they dont bop like me & my dad & end up in a & e
Abbavick - I followed in my father’s footsteps. He ruptured his AT about 12 or 13 years ago while playing softball. He made a full recovery and is still playing softball at 63 years old. I do think genetics play a role in some ruptures. I haven’t found any studies that confirm this other than a couple studies linking tendon ruptures to people with type O blood. But, I think lifestyle probably plays a similar role as well.
hiya tom- likewise my dad 66 & made a full recovery from injury 12 years ago- on a positive note, my dad felt so sorry for me & knowing what laid ahead he has been really supportive.
you really need alot of help when your on the crutches.
Im gonna suggest we join a dancing class together, if it wasnt hereditary maybe we just both hopeless dancers !!
Grandfather ruptured during tennis in his forties, mother doing keep fit also in her forties and I was Scottish country dancing at a ceilidh (I have reached the dizzy heights of a 52 year old), so I think you are right about it running in families.
