Extremely sore tendon on non-ATR leg?

April 29, 2016 · 3 Comments

Hi all;

For the past while my achilles tendon on my non-ruptured leg has been inflamed and painful to touch. I mentioned this to my ortho back in week 1 but he thought nothing of it. I am concerned that this tendon could end up like my ATR on my left leg - it was inflamed and sore leading up to my rupture while playing volleyball.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I am thinking about booking an appointment with an athletic therapist to take a look at my “good” tendon, even though I’m still a few weeks out from therapy on my ATR leg.

PS. Was full weight bearing on my ATR whilst in my walking boot (3 wedges in) today around the office several times. No soreness, mild swelling. I am hoping things are progressing well down there.

    Hi winnipeg, sorry to hear about your other leg problem. You might want to read normofthenorth’s blog since he was a volleyball player like you and tore both of his legs. Knock knock, don’t want to happen to you, but it would be a good idea to get an MRI and talk to your doctor about that. Good job on the full weight bearing!!! Take care.

    Winnipeg,
    What does the soreness feel like? Mine almost feels like fraying in my “good” AT. I just started experiencing this and am totally panicking. I am/was a volleyball player, too. I’m 15 weeks out of surgery and fwb in a boot, so I can’t really not use my right foot. I guess I will call my doc. tomorrow and pray I don’t tear anything tonight. Good luck with yours. This is all so hard! You’re not alone!

    Hi Winnipeg, there is research that shows that following an eccentric calf lower program strengthens the achilles tendon and cures tendinitus which is pain and inflammation in the achilles tendon. I posted about this here achillesblog.com/beanie/2016/02/07/research-on-strengthening-the-achilles-tendon-and-calves/ and I also included some links at the end of the post. I hope this helps!
