My first 10 miler race: 50 Weeks and 4 days Post-ATR
My one year anniversary is almost here. I would’ve never thought that I’d be back to running any races longer than a 10K this soon. Today I finished the George Washington Parkway Classic 10 Miler very close to my time when I ran it two years ago! Up to this point, I’ve only been running in 5Ks and a couple of 4 milers. And today, I had the opportunity to hop off the bus for the 5K race. But instead, I felt the need to remain on the bus and head over to the 10 mile start line for this point-to-point race (Mount Vernon to Old Town Alexadria). And I’m very glad that I did!
That’s great, Wayne! You’re giving some great encouragement to a bunch of folks who are also dreaming about regaining their past times, or verticals, or other sports accomplishments!
At about the same time into my first ATR (8 yrs ago), I was back into the next volleyball season, generally forgetting about my ATR. I’d waited until I could do a bunch of 1-leg heel raises without working too hard at it, and I thought I was pretty quickly back to my former level of play.
That’s how it SHOULD go!

Can’t wait to reach my one year finish line. I joined my basketball team’s practice last Saturday, for first time after 5 months. Did some really good warm-up and stretching and then runned with the girls, passing and shooting and other drills. I stopped 20 minutes before the practice’s end to ice my heel. Was very nice, but awkward. Still can’t ‘un-stuck’ my foot off the ground very well, but I felt my calf finally work.
When I took off my shoes, my right sock was really wet on top of my foot and on my heel, my left one (good foot) was a little wet on top and not at all on the heel. Pretty warm, but not swollen, nor aching..
