No more BOOT!! :-)
It has been exactly 7 weeks since surgery and 8 weeks since rupture. Physical therapy continues to go very well, and today I got the great news that it was OK to leave without my boot and WITH two sneakers on. This week I saw a great increase in the strength in my calf and ankle areas as the elliptical, walking up and down the edge of stairs (on the balls of my feet), and full two-legged squats were all introduced to my regiment this week. My PT says we are going to move on to some running next week which makes me extremely excited. All in all my progress tends to go unusually smooth…..At this point the only reasons my PT can come up as to why I am recovering so well is that 1) some people just heal much better/faster than others and 2)my decision to not be totally immobile while I was in a cast has seemed to help my body bounce back faster…..I continue to keep my fingers crossed because I know I’m still a ways away from full recovery, but at least now that’s not looking like February 2013 like originally thought when I first got injured. Happy Healing to all of you!!

Congrats! Those are great milestones. Keep up the great work!
Outstanding! Great news. Two shoes at seven weeks. Wishing you more smooth sailing thru all of this.
Awesome news! Let us know how the new PT work goes!
Wow! That’s awesome! Congrats! Hope it continues to go your way!
Congratulations and great inspiring news! I am trying to stay mobile in my cast which I hope to get off on Monday. When did you start your PT? I am at week 3 post surgery.
Awesome!! Sounds like you’re killing it.
Congrats on your recovery..like you I seem to be getting to milestones a little quicker than most protocols….sometimes it freaks me out but I have to trust my doctor. Friday I went in for my 4week post op and I was FWB….he gave me stirrup splint to wear with sneakers and told me to start this next friday which would be 5 weeks post op…my next doc visit is 7weeks and although I am not sure I think I will be able to take the stirrup splint off and be just in 2 shoes…I am not starting pt until that time because he believes that after walking and doing stuff at home I might not need it….I am going to push for It regardless..deductible is meet and it a solid excuse to have grandma babysit the kids….but for other..I did stay mobile in my walking boot was constantly wiggling my toes and started rom at 2 week just with very cautious dorsiflexion..I also did leg extension, sit ups pushups..fake bicycle..imagine pretending to ride a bike while sitting down…kettle bell swing, dips…maybe it helped who know hard to say..I also took a ton of vitamin c fish oil and b viatims as well as wore a compression sock and took msm….I figured it could not hurt..hope others are on there way to a quick recovery
Congratulations! I’ve been in two shoes for ten days now, after surgery on my third rupture in one year. Everyone’s recovery is different and it sounds like you’re on the way to a swift recovery.
Sounds great, Walkel, but continue to Watch Your Step!
Thanks to you all for the support and best wishes!
@courtney I started my PT as soon as I got my cast off which was 3 weeks and 5 days precisely.
@Trucker, yep it sounds like you are def on the right track but I”ll give you the same words of wisdom that everyone else has given me. “Don’t overdo it, listen to your body!” Good Luck!
@rosethorn 3 ruptures in one year?! I couldn’t even imagine that! Did you have surgery each time or is this the first time? Was it the same ATR or both?
norm, i have read so many of your posts and thank you for them and wanted to respectfully ask you something. this is my first time on the site going on 3 months of eccentric calf exercises and full PT protocol with 6 months of diagnosed tendonosis following development of pain and a nodule on the tendon following running (which i stopped right away) in my left leg had a primary and 2nd opinion of no need for surgery with ionophoresis scheduled tomorrow with PT. has anyone been thru the ionphoresis with any success? It is what the primary doc suggested as the next step before a boot or casting to immobolize and let it heal if it does not improve in 6-8 weeks. he said it is trying to heal and the swelling down. in addition, both docs said there is mixed success at best with debridement of a tendon not ruptured and surgery cannot reconstruct a tendon as well as what the body can do naturally to heal it. i am on every other day eccentrics now as it causes some bone pain in the foot and have some slight tendonitis now in the other tendon!~ am 54 yrs old 6′3 174 otherwise very fit. orthotics are also on order the conservative approach he said is best with orthotics and ionphoresis first then boot or cast. has anyone ever made a decent recovery from tendonosis? its a degenerative condition he said. many thanks for any reply it is a bit frightening i am a bit ashamed to say after reading why others have overcome on this site.
Good for you - I’m stuck in this thing for anther 6 to 8 weeks.
Thanks for the update. Great to hear it. I’ll try and remember it next time I move down stairs on my ass.
