CAST OFF TODAY…..HOPEFULLY
Posted on March 7th, 2012 by walkel
Hey guys,
I am finally at the pivotal 4 weeks Post-Op moment and I should be getting my cast taken off in about an hour. I say “should” because I’m such a busy body and I haven’t really stayed put these past few weeks. I would lose my mind if I did! However, I’m hoping for the best and hoping that my constant moving around hasn’t interrupted the healing time for my tendon forcing me to stay in a cast and crutches a little while longer….WISH ME LUCK!!!

I’ll wish you luck, but you’re almost certainly good for a walking boot. Once you’re off the crutches, you may or may not find a walking stick or cane handy. The people who have used the knee-walkers, the mobile carts for the injured leg if you will, swear by them. Given my relatively short period of NWB/PWB, I couldn’t justify the expense — but someone who has to keep a very active schedule and not just sit behind a desk most of the day might see otherwise. All best, and let us know how the Dr. visit goes.
Thanks Janus, I was actually reading your comment while in the doctor’s office, so it really gave me the encouragement I needed. Like you thought, the cast came off today and I was given my walking boot back - although it hasn’t been adjusted to the total neutral position as of yet. I went right to my PT assessment an hour later and I’m scheduled and ready to go for PT 3 days a week (MWF). I’m just a tad confused on when I can put pressure on it again. My surgeon was kind of vague about it (”About a week or so after PT….”) and my PT said he won’t start with “pressure exercises” until he gets a go from the surgeon. Nonetheless, I am ecstatic to be out of that cast and I look forward to what the next few weeks will bring….
Glad for the good news. Sounds the like the surgeon and PT specialist need to chat a bit. Otherwise, looks like you’re moving forward. All best.
