Surgery Tomorrow

Published by w8kbrd at 5:48 pm under Uncategorized

Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning and I absolutely cannot wait! I have been sitting around like a depressed dog watching the days pass by. This whole experience has not been easy and it’s only been one week, yikes…. I can’t help but think about all of the things that I am missing out on, but at the same time I remind myself that it could be worse.

I just bought a boat two months ago and it is just sitting there wanting to be used. My Basketball team is leaving tomorrow for Los Angeles for a tournament that I have been excited about for months. I know my time will come when I can participate in all the sports that make up who I am, but for now it is books, IPOD, TV, Pain Meds, computer, and relaxing on the couch.

I can’t thank everyone on this site enough for all of the support and information that I have been given this past week. It is amazing to hear the number of people struggling with this same injury. The good news is that we are all on our way to recovery. I have always been an extremely impatient person and now I am learning how to deal with that impatience.

That sucks about your basketball team leaving tomorrow without you!! I too have been trying to be as positive as possible, especially since there are definitley people out there who have life way way tougher than us, but I do think it’s also OK to feel a bit sorry for ourselves at times. I think we are bouncing back quickly and remembering what we have to be grateful for :-). I am hoping to use this experience to learn some more things about myself, and hopefully I will be a better person at the end.
Good luck tomorrow, I’ll be checking back to see how you are doing.
    Take care,
    Jen

Good luck in the surgery tomorrow. It’ll be over before you know it…literally.

The waiting and the first week suck the most. By far. After that, it’s all downhill. Besides the actual recovery, there are the little milestones…stitches out, physical therapy, first steps, etc. Goes by so much faster than the first week.

This is what I can pass along from my recent experience: definitely keep the leg elevated as much as possible (toes above nose). Helps with the swelling, pain and healing. Get off the Percocet as soon as you can. Gave me crazy dreams and I think calf spasms. Didn’t help with the sleeping either. Don’t push yourself the first few days. Easier said than done but the first 72 hours are the most critical. I created a little computer, med, snack table next to my bed before surgery. Best thing I did. After the first week, I moved out of the bedroom.

Sorry to hear about your basketball team trip. Man, I lived for my Tuesday night game. On a side note, the gym where I done me bad is only two blocks from my house. Going past it the first few times sucked but now I laugh about it…sorta.

In any case, best wishes and see you on the hardwood again…and soon!

Lots of luck tomorrow. As others have said the days will go slow, especially at first, but the time will pass. Keep us up-to-date with your recovery.
