Second Opinion Update

Went to my appointment for a second opinion today. Doctor said that it is shortened and my option is lengthening surgery (the z one). Only problem is that I cannot get the surgery right now as I am on coumadin for a dvt in the leg. Soooo, he wants an MRI done and then after my ultrasound in January, if the blood clot is gone I can possibly get the surgery to fix the shortened tendon. I have a return appointment in a month with him to check how things are going. Right now he said pt wont be able to stretch the tendon, but they will be able to work on my strength as I cannot even do a two foot heel lift yet.

Oh well, better a clear answer (& a Doc who pays attention!) than none. Too bad your first OS is still in business…

Yeah, it’s good that I went for a second opinion. The doctor is very nice and has done many achilles surgeries. He follows the standard protocol (which my ortho doesn’t even seem to know). Im not thrilled to get another surgery though. I will be right back at square one with the wheelchair and yuckyness all over again. Im hoping that there is some other way; like shoe modifications or just dealing with it and the duck walking lol. It has been the longest five months of my life, and I just don’t want to do it all over again :(

    Why wheelchair not crutches?

I had crutches and a wheelchair. I have four kids and crutches were just not going to cut it when going to the park or on any time of long term outing. I used the crutches at home and for getting into and out of the truck, and the wheelchair for anything that was going to take time to do (like grocery shopping ect…)

I think I did it almost the opposite way.

I had wheeled chairs in the kitchen and study, and kneeling stools in the bathroom and the shower stall. Crutches mostly for getting between them and for trips outside the house. But FWB started a coupla days after 4 wks, so the crutches didn’t last long.

The folks here who went for knee scooters often used their wheels more at home than out.
