surgery
my surgery was scheduled for 2:15 but my doc was delayed due to an emergency surgery that morning. I didn’t get taken in until 4:00 and was in recovery by 5:00. They chose to do a nerve block and partial general anesthesia due to an elevated liver function test on the 20th of Aug. My leg didn’t get feeling in it until early the next morning which is probably a good thing. The pain isn’t as bad as I expected. I haven’t seen the surgeon yet though, so I don’t know what he did. I called and was told that he will give me a full report at my first post op visit.
I’m spending alot of time in bed right now and using crutches. I have a non weight bearing cast until my post op visit on Thursday. They prescribed me Lortab 10. 1-2 every 4-6 hours. My husband is helping me with everything. I don’t know what I’d do if I had to do this alone. I highly recommend anyone scheduled for this surgery to get a cast cover and a shower stool before you have surgery. I tried to think of every thing I’d need after and have it ready when I got home.
I’ll let you know what I find out at my post op visit.

Congratulations on your first “step” to recovery. Try and keep your foot elevated above your heart as much as possible during the critical first two weeks. The more you rest, the faster your foot heals. I didn’t have much pain either but I still took an Ibuprofen every day for the first week to reduce swelling.
I feel for you girl!! I have just started weightbearing and yesterday packed up the shower seat~ don’t worry there is an end. The other thing that helped me was my husband got an extendable shower at Home Depot for like 10 bucks. It attaches at your regular shower head- it came in handy since you can’t move much in the shower. We also got a camping portapotty for right next to the bed-I’m still using it since our bathroom is downstairs. That was a life saver! Good luck!! When they give you a boot cast, think about having your husband gently do some foot massage- I think that helped me alot when it was time to walk again. Good Luck!!
