Last week, at post-op visit 2 my foot started flopping around like a fish as soon as the doctor took the bandages off and didnt stop until it was re-swaddled. I wonder what caused that. I wonder if it’s still trying to flop around but can’t.
Thanksgiving was a huge exercise in “letting go”. I (control freak) had to count on everyone else to do the things I would usually do, and the scooter was an in-efficient means of carrying most things! As challenging as it was, everything turned out great! One side note is that one of our guests, who is a doctor, kept calling crutches “crew-tches”. She’s also a writer, and super smart. It made me wonder if I’d been pronouncing it wrong my whole life. Does anyone else pronounce it this way?
Tomorrow is post-op visit #3. They’re supposed to take the staples out and I’m supposed to start the boot. She mentioned possibly putting me in a short boot. I’ve not heard of anyone on achillesblog being put in a short boot. She told me to bring my boots(s). I have 3 of them - short, knee length and a new vacoped pro. She hasn’t heard of the vacoped but I’m hoping she’ll let me go ahead and use it, although I wonder if the short boot would ultimately be more comfortable. I feel like it wouldn’t give me enough support. Any thoughts or experiences are welcome.
Last night I looked over at my night table and saw all the supplies I’d gotten for my convalescence (several books, lots of art supplies and a tiny Lego version of a piece of architecture I like). I haven’t touched ANY of them. Not sure if that’s good or bad!
3 weeks have flown by but then I look ahead and realize it’s only just begun.

Yes, that’s my cat’s tail. Or at least the piece I backed up over with my knee scooter. But he got his revenge later.

I’m glad I didn’t break anything. He doesn’t look any worse for the wear. My husband is away for the weekend and I’ve been particularly careful not to perform any stunts or balancing tricks that would leave me “fallen and unable to get up” or would cause the scooter to go out from under my knee, zooming across the floor.
Does anyone else keep hitting their good ankle with the bolt sticking out of the back wheel of the scooter, or am I just clumsy? While I’m on the topic, does anyone else have a persistent fear of rupturing their other tendon?

Instead of adding a picture of the yucky stitches (that were not removed) when they redressed my wrappings yesterday, here’s a picture of my foot at tonight’s Eddie Vedder concert
I was looking forward to this concert for almost a year (it was cancelled once). Glad I went but completely exhausted! (Note to self: Get a fluorescent/neon cast cover to avoid having foot run into)

Is it normal to feel really weak or tire easily?

Hi everyone. I’m on day 3 post-op. my initial injury was back in June. I was visiting NY and doing a lot of walking and one night I was telling my husband one leg felt shorter than the other but I had no pain. Then the swelling began. When I got back I had an MRI and saw an orthopedist. She had me wear a boot for two weeks. I’ll make a new entry about her. She’s no longer my doctor and probably shouldn’t be practicing medicine,
Surgery went well. Not much pain at this point. I was nauseous for the first 2 days so I stopped taking pain pills and hope I won’t need them. I got a knee scooter after reading a lot of posts here. Biggest challenges so far are the bathroom and the shower.
