Released from the surgeon!!

Published by trin74 at 11:03 AM under Countdown

15 weeks since injury today, and I have been released from my surgeon. Well, he didn’t operate so technically my consultant.. But he doesn’t want to see me again which is awesome! And the best news is that he is going to get the private hospital that I was going through to stock the Vacocast now instead of what they are currently using because of the success I have and with it. Feels great to know that my injury and recovery is going to help others. In other news I am allowed to progress back into dancing in 2 months and I can wear HEELS!! No skyscrapers, but heels!! Will start very small as I don’t want to reinjure myself. He was very happy with my ROM, particularly dorsiflexion, and the feel of my tendon. and he said that my walk is so good that you wouldn’t know i had ever been injured. And my single heel raises are progressing very well. I can control the raise up whilst holding onto something, but not attempting to get my heels right up at the moment. Incrementally… Still being very cautious on stairs and stepping off kerbs etc, but Life is good :)

Congratulations! That’s got to be the best feeling ever and only 15 weeks! That’s amazing. What is on the schedule for the next two months before dance? Continued physio? Gosh, I’m so happy for you!

Single leg heel raises already? I’m impressed. That makes me feel way behind. I’m only 12 weeks but I don’t foresee single leg heel raises in 3 weeks.

Thanks so much guys - yes, I am pretty happy! I know that I am not fully recovered, and still have a long way to go - but marking things off along the way feels GREAT. I am still doing physio every 2 weeks, and keeping up on the bike - consultant said I can ride it outdoors now too. And with the heel raises some people get them earlier, some don’t. 3 weeks ago I didn’t feel like I woudl be able to get my heel up either - and 4 weeks ago I struggled to even move weight onto the ball of the foot with my foot still flat! (Although I think that was fear more than anything). Some people were able to FWB and walk without crutches earlier than me - which I tried to take in my stride. We all progress differently - we just have to remain positive and always be careful (and INCREMENTAL - really, REALLY over that word now).
