A Texas gal tracking her ATR

It is just the most gorgeous day here in Georgetown…86 degrees very few clouds in the sky and me grinning from ear to ear. I just went outside and walked 3/4 of a mile (in boot). I guess maybe truth be known I hobbled 3/4 of a mile…..but in my heart and in my mind I had my ear pods in and was listening to Huey Lewis and the News sing "The Heart of Rock and Roll" and I was speed walking down the road. In my mind I had blocked out any other thoughts except the beauty of nature and the exhilaration I remember feeling every time I pump my arms and they work in union with the speed of my legs…. with my own self made wind blowing against my sweat stained face………(probably not a pretty picture to paint) but oh how I miss that.  It was good to get out of the house. It was good to remember that feeling. And it will be great to actually do that next March.

It’s a beautiful day.

Yay! That must have felt exhilarating! I’m looking forward to walking and perhaps even being able to sneak up on someone! As it is, my family calls me “clicker”–they can hear my crutches approaching long before I get to my destination.

Enjoy the rest of your day, Peg! Great post!

    YEAH Peg!
Isn’t it amazing how time changes everything! That, and sunshine and a little mobility! I too am amazed at how quickly my recovery seems to be going. I’m realizing that my Dr. is of the “conservative” mindset, and I’m rolling with the “Beg for forgiveness instead of asking for permission” mindset. Saw him last Wed. and he wanted me to stay in the boot for another 3 weeks (for a total of 12 since surgery - 7 since coming out of the cast). I’ve been walking in 2 shoes at work and the limp is improving considerably. We also opened out pool at home, and I’ve been doing deep water toe lifts very well. Spending a LOT of time massaging the tendon, foot , heel area to reduce the thickness and swelling. All in all I”m-a-happy camper. Continued good wishes to you in your progress!

I ‘m not so brave Jack…but it’s suppose to be 95 here today….so I may go to the pool, take off my boot and at least catch a few rays. I’ headed for day 2 of physical therapy this morning. May write more this afternoon. Thanks for everyone’s comments.

Make sure you’re not locking or hyperextending your knee when you boot-walk, Peg/TG, or it may bother you long after your ankle is fine. Your boot stride should be pretty normal until somebody notices your footwear.

    “until somebody notices your footwear”???

I’ve wondered about that hyper-extending my knee and in fact had a lady tell me this morning to be careful of taking any serious walks until I’m in tennis shoes so that I don’t injure my knee. I’ve tried to find one of my “right” shoes that is just about the same height as my boot, but I still feel the ‘hobble’ somewhat. Thank you for the heads up.
