Had surgery on Monday - two days ago . The surgery went seemingly okay , but struggling with pain in the stitches . It feels like someone is tearing them out. The foot is also swollen and hot , and I can clearly feel the pulse if I try to get up. Have called emergency services , will return for control tonight. Hope there is some infection or other nasties going on.

Otherwise, I have a check-up on Friday, June 14 , ie 18 days after surgery . Will get the ROM walker and start PT.

Finally : After some discussion with the surgeon about the methods and results , he said that they had completely stopped with conservative treatment , because it required very intensive rehab to get a usable result, and this rehab was expensive . Also, you have to have much longer sick leave , which is expensive too. [Norway has public health care, which pay for all this].

Currently it looks good . Coming back to update in a few days :)

Dear All

So, then I’m stuck on my in-laws’ sofa with a newly torn Achilles. Awaiting transport home and surgery. Reading that spinning is the exercise to go for in the early days of rehab - brings glimmers of hope :)

In short , I played five-a-side with my brother-in-law and his friends. After about 50 minutes play I accelerates maximum on a counter-attack and have half the pitch for myself. There’s no ‘pop’ - it’s a BANG of force all up to my knee! No sound. Feels like I’ve stepped on a landmine. I flew several feet through the air and landed with a crash on my left foot - the injured one. The pain was extreme. To top it all,  as my wife is from Serbia, that’s were my in-laws live, and that’s were I currently am - still awaiting transport home. Great… Even better: I was supposed to run my first ever Marathon this summer. Not much hope now, is it?

Hopefully I will be operated on Sunday 26th, i.e. after four days. Hoping to get a ROM walker rather than a cast - the sooner the better. Perhaps I’ll be cleared for the 42k in Rotterdam in April 2014? A few friends of mine are inviting, I’m hoping. Same goes for the Lewa Wildlife Marathon in June/July 2014. That would be awesome!

Happy Healing everyone.

Hello world! (yes, this is my first real post)

Dear World!

I ruptured my left achilles tendon on May 22nd, while playing five-a-side football. It was an atypical rupture, I think, as it didn’t really snap or pop. It was more of a long tear - until it was completely torn at the very end of my stride. Instead of the famous ‘pop’, I felt weird sensation as my calf muscle and achilles shot up my calf with trememndeous force and hit the bottom part of my knee. Knocking me completely out of balance, which again resulted in my falling with full weight on my injured foot. Not cool. Incredibly painful - felt like I had stepped on a landmine or something. To top it up, my calf muscles went into a cramp that lastet five days. As a matter of fact, the first thing I noticed around me when I woke up from anesthesia was that my cramp was no longer there. What a relief!

The injury happened at the worst possible time. I had planned and prepared for my first ever marathon later this summer. My wife was expecting our second child in September, and our son, Viktor, had just learned to run/climb/make a lot of mess. Great.

It took some time before I found this blog, and then, it took some more time before I found motivation and time to actually blog, rather than just jerk around in the comments sections. Regarding the motivation, the number one motivator is ubdoubtedly Normofthenorth. It is because of people like him these kind of fora really have value! A big thanks to Norm!

Now, before I found this blog, I actually did write quite a bit about my injury and recovery in other fora. In the next posts, I will present a recap on the history of my injury from what I have written elsewhere.

Happy Healing!
