Hey everyone

Hi all,

My name is Tom. I am currently recovering from AT surgery. I ruptured the AT a little over 5 weeks ago.On July 20th,  I was playing softball and as I was coming out of the batters box, I pushed and felt like someone had hit me in the back of the right  leg with the bat. I tried to run, and stumbled and fell to the ground. It didn’t hurt much when I did it, but as i got up to walk off the field is when the pain set in.I couldnt pick up my foot to walk normally.  I had a feeling I knew what I did, but hoped for the best as I drove myself to the ER. ER doc confirmed what I thought. Went to see the Ortho surgeon a few days later and an MRI revealed the extent of the damage. I had surgery on July 26th. The doctor who performed the surgery told me they were able to go in through a smaller incision than normal because of a new technique.

As of today, I am now in my last cast. I am still no weight bearing for another month. The cast will be on for 2 more weeks, then I will get moved to a boot and physical therapy. I am looking forward to therapy which hopefully means I can start driving again. My family has been a godsend in helping me after the surgery and transporting me to and from work.

It has been tough watching everyone else have fun and be able to do things I cant right now. And I have been contemplating giving up the two sports I love, hockey and softball, for fear of hurting myself again. But right now, all I can do is take it day by day and let it heal correctly and completely. I would rather make sure it is 100% healed before I go out and do something stupid and end up back in the same spot I am in now.

Talk to everyone later.

Tom
