Well,
Its now 2.5 months after the surgery to clear up the infection and pull the sutures out of the tendon, and i am still having issue with the incision healing. It healed from the inside out, but it seem the last layer of skin doesnt want to fully close. Starting to get really frustrated. I am relegated to 1 shoe and 1 sandal, because the sandal is the only comfortable thing on my foot. I am starting to wonder if im going to need plastic surgery to fully close the wound.

Sorry to hear that you’ve had so much trouble with the wound, hope it gets better without the need for plastic surgery. I know things like this are a small risk and are the exception rather than the ‘norm’ but when I made the decision to go op or non-op this was definitely one of the risks that swayed me into getting conservative treatment.

Sorry to hear about the set backs. I recall it seemed like forever to heal. You’ll get there in time.
Good luck.

Tom,
That sucks. Do you have a photo you can post or email to me? I had a total of 4 surgeries including the initial one to sew the tendon back together so I do have some experience. 2-1/2 months and still not healed just doesn’t seem right.

Hi Tom,
I had a similar problem, my wound healed nicely and things were progressing well. I was starting to get the strength back in my calf etc etc. However when I returned to work the wound opened up at the bottom, this became infected and a suture appeared through the flesh. As my body tried to fight off the infection with the aid of Antibiotics this hole became over granulated and ended up with me having further surgery to fix things. This was just over two weeks ago, and touch wood everything now seems to be back on track with the hole healing up nicely. My advice to you would be to try and prevent infection at all costs. Stay off the foot as much as possible and elevate several times a day to keep any swelling down.
Hope things work out ok for you
Andy

Good luck and good healing, guys! You’re making me grateful that all my recent chest incisions have healed well. Maybe that’s because I’m “the norm”. . .

Hi Tom,
How long did it take for your wound to heal? Did you still go to PT when you had wound on your incision? Did you use crutches/cane or were you on FWB when you still had wound on your incision? I completed my 12th weeks yesterday post operation, my surgeon told me the tendon has completely healed as he took the ultrasound and confirmed however I still have two small wounds that are not closing well, he mentioned that is Granulated tissue and it would close over time but I am not able to start my PT yet…i m seeing him next Monday as he put the antibiotic ointment on it last Monday and tightly bandaged it…he told me not to open the bandage for the whole time as I was doing the dressing twice everyday…do you have any suggestions for me?
Appreciate it.
