A couple of setbacks. Getting frustrated.

November 27, 2010 · 4 Comments

Well,

Im 4 months out since surgery and have had a few minor setbacks. When I finally went weight bearing, and was allowed to drive, I developed an infection in the incision because it hadnt healed completely and spent 2 weeks packing the opening and on antibiotics. Kept me from therapy for almost 2 weeks. Now, I have an abscess above the incision. On Bactrim and Vicodin for the pain and go to see the Ortho on Thrusday for what was to be my last followup from surgery. Hurts to walk and have a huge lump above the incision. Also tired of the swelling. it swells up like a balloon during the day till I get home and can put it up. I know its a long process, but its getting frustratin. Any words of advice?

Continued swelling at 4 months may be just one of those things that’s a normal nuisance for some of us. I think mine lasted that long this time, with no infections or abscesses (or surgery). Keep it under control, the same as you’ve probably been doing. “This too shall pass,” though it can take a while.

The rest sounds like a bloody nuisance, and I’ve got nothing — other than get help, follow the instructions, and do what you can to “win the mental game”! (If you want help convincing yourself that things could be worse, I’m going in for open-heart surgery in 4 days! :-) )

Good Luck and Good Healing to both of us!

not sure its advice but I think like norm says, “just one of those things”.
My PT has another AT client at the moment and this person is over 5 months post repair and it is still acting up like yours .
PT said he wasnt resting it enough.

Sorry I know thats not much help or advice but its obviously no uncommon.
    Good luck

    Phil

Sorry I can not offer you any advice, but I just wanted to say that you have all my support and sympathy from afar.

Keep going, you will get there in the end :)
