3 months post-surgery update
Post-op today - first appt. after VACOcast came off at 8 weeks (had hard cast for 3 weeks, which was switched after 1.5 weeks to bring my ankle a little more toward neutral). Have been doing PT since 7-8 weeks, including toe raises for the last week w/ only 25% WB on affected (left) leg. Have also been doing body-weight squats, swimming (500-1000 yards maybe 2/week), biking 2x/week (mostly stationary but a few rides on a step-through), and upper body and core. My left ankle/calf is still a little swollen, and he said that’s normal. However, he’s not happy w/ how red my scar is, and is putting me back in a wedge in my shoes, in a boot if I’m going to walk any distance, and lay off of the toe raises, biking, and lower body exercises to see if the redness decreases over the next two weeks. Discouraging, but I agree w/ the plan and was not happy w/ the redness. He’s not worried about infection b/c there’s no pain w/ touching or pressing on the scar and no oozing or anything. I guess I over did it a little, although I never had any pain while exercising. Walking normally is the hardest thing so far! Thanks to everyone for all the posts, I have been reading them over the past few months and they have been very helpful.
