Golfing at 12 Weeks
When I first got hurt and started researching the recovery process I kept reading 12 weeks to resume everyday daily activities. I’ve never been a deadline/goal setter in anything. I’ve always just sought continuous, daily improvement in all facets of life. However, with this injury I felt the desire to set the tangible goal of golfing 12 weeks after surgery. I played 9 holes with a cart today. The score was nothing to write home about courtesy of the worst putting performance of my life, but I was glad to find out that I can still absolutely crush the piss out of a golf ball.

Wlaking around 9holes of a golf course and being able to swing the clubs, that’s a really cool achievement at 12 weeks, congratulations, must of felt great
Was that with or without the boot? How didu feel the next day?

No boot, I got rid of it at 9 weeks. I feel good today, no soreness at all. The achilles is always still as every morning but loosens up after walking around a little bit.

Awesome stuff then, I find your achievement mighty impressive at 12wks more - although I don’t feel as though I am healing as fast as you “youngsters”, this is the type inspirational stuff that helps keeps us positive
Happy healing

That’s great to hear Tate! I was hoping to get a round of golf in before the season ends, so this definitely gives me some hope. Are there any other activities that you’ve completed around the 12wk mark as well?

hey Tate .. I’m a huge golfer and prob the worst part about this ATR has been missing golf season .. havent seen a lot of my buddies who I golf with bc I’m home, etc and theyre out playing golf .. Miss it so much .. so, this Fri will be 8 weeks Post Op and 9 weeks since last round, etc .. if I can be back out there in 12 weeks like yourself, I will be so psyched .. that’s mid August for me .. We’ll see & Im not going to rush it .. but, thank u so much for your post and giving me something to wish for and strive for .. you’re right, a tangible goal will def help .. Congrats on your 9 holes .. very jealous and hoping for same in near future ~ Best .. Mark

Golfing at 12 weeks should be achievable for your guys. I realize I’m kind of lucky that I’m still in my 20’s and most people with this injury are a little older and may not heal as fast, but I know I could have played a week or two earlier. I had to tone down my swing a little bit out there, but my ball striking actually benefited from that.
My next goal is to jog within the next 10 days (which will be the 14 week mark). Right now I can do an old man jog but it’s not a true jog since there’s no point where both feet are off the ground.
I do feel an extra spring in my step these past few days. My achilles is starting to get a little bit more of an “elastic” feel to it and i can bounce up and down on my toes pretty easily. I only limp if I’m trying to walk really fast. I’ve been doing prison squats for a few weeks and my balance and depth is really starting to improve on the eccentric phase…..3 months ago I was squatting over 400 lbs and now I’m excited that I can almost to a prison squat to parallel. LOL

I golfed 9 holes yesterday after 11 weeks. Although I golfed in my walking boot (left foot). Playing in a tournament tomorrow and going to play in the boot. Too nervous to try right now without it.
