Crutched in, walked out

Just had my six week follow up this morning.  Dr said everything looks and feels good and strong.  After examining my achilles and the incision he asked if I was ready to get rid the of the crutches.  I emphatically said,  "absolutely" assuming he would tell me just a few more weeks or something along those lines.  When he told me I could ditch the crutches right away I had to fight to keep from smiling like a kid on Christmas morning.

My walk is ugly as hell and the height difference from my booted foot to other foot is a little awkward but I’m on cloud nine right now.

Congrats! I was reading your last post and wondering how long it took you to get to 90 degrees? I’m having a hard time getting past 15 at almost 4 weeks. (it’s painful to try). Did the PT help with that? Thanks, and congrats again on walking!

TG, you’ve got to fix (=eliminate) “the height difference from my booted foot to other foot”. Methods vary and many work, but DON’T get in the habit of walking lop-sided!

    Kim,
I got to 90 degrees about a week ago, which would be 5 weeks post op. My ROM didn’t increase by much when I was first out of the cast until I started using light resistance bands. Once they started me on resistance bands at PT the improvement was immediate.

    Norm,
What suggestions might you offer to level my myself out? Currently I’ve got an extra insole in my normal shoe but it’s still a pretty significant difference.
