Hiya everyone - 3 weeks post op
took me forever to work out how to use this so bare with me lol,, (beware cant spell for toffee)
im female 30yrs old just 
from yorkshire UK
ive a complete achilies tendon rupture
accident - 3rd july 2011 doing 400m hurdles after not doing it for 10yrs ive been taught a BIG lesson no training HURTS, mid flight over an hurdle heard this loud snap i actually did not feel a thing, i though the heel on my shoe had broke as it felt like the floor came up to me i did another stride and realsied my foot was jelly and numb so hopped to the side of the track.
surgery date (on NHS) 7th july 2011
Plastercast applied after surgery, changed exactly 1 week after surgery to a fibreglass cast
exaclty 2 week post surgery stitches were taken out and i was put into CAM boot (bought my self NHS dont supply)
i take my boot off on a night put it on in the day and weight bare (angle of boot is 7.5 degrees going to 0 degrees this week) ive been pain free from 1 week post op , OMG i was in pain in that 1st week i tell ya OUCH, 1st weight bare extreme pins and needles but it soon goes after a few steps.
at 5pm every day i take the boot off and weight bare without anything (but only limp to kitchen n back to sofa n upstairs to toliet) soon as i rest it from 5pm swelling goes down very quick.
i keep circling foot to keep range of motion going.
im self employed so had no time off work 
im a venue decortaor for weddings so no driving is a major impact, ive a little chair on wheels that spins so i whizz around venues on that putting chair covers on and tieing bows hehe
ive not used crutches for a few days now i only take them if im out for a long time like this weekend where at a christening so i will be taking them
to sum up im 3 week post op 4 week this thursday. and think im heeling very well my surgeon is bias to early mobility my next check up is 17th august where i think physio begins too. its a nasty injury ive had my ups and downs with it this 3 weeks specially first 2 weeks alot of crying and frustration, i have my good days but i have bad days especially when i ve been working it swells more but thats expected, i think the fine balance of mobility and rest is the key to this heeling process only time will tell 
looking forward to reading all the other posts and meeting some new friends and its nice to know im not on my own heeling (even tho i get looked at like a freek with my robo cop boot on when out and about haha)

I Tara welcome to the club. I’m one week ahead of you, but my doctor is conservative. I’m full bearing some times. Took my cast off one week ago, now in my boots. I take them off during resting but not sleep. I tried once to sleep with out the boots but my foot twitches in the middle of the night and wakes me up from the pain. ( does that not happen to you)

next night without pain killers but i sleep face down which points the foot so maybe why it suited me? it does stiffen in a morning but a gentle ease into the boot its fine.
the evening i was sent home with the boot i was still protective over my foot and it was like jelly at first, i was worried about the boot at 1st about sleeping with the boot on but 1st night i tossed n turned it drove me mad, so i sat up took it off took some ibrophen with codine put it on a cushion in bed and slept all night
ive never had twitches but ive been told thats a sign your nerves re attaching??
one thing ive noticed this week is all of a sudden i can feel my calf muscle again its not felt attached till now did you get this feeling?, also 2 week post op i had severe muscle wastage from non weight baring scarey how quick it goes.

Hya Unclebuck (great name) try going into dashboard, on the left side of the page look at the bit which says ‘posts’ and then ‘add new’ and click on here? give it a go?

Hey what is your advice about going into the ocean? Incision is healed so well that I really don’t even have a scar! I would be in the boot…

It gets that way at times. A bit of a hijack. Lets put it back on track. I notice you are weight bearing without your boot. Is that something your doc has said is OK or something you feel is OK yourself. I would have thought it was a bit early for that. You may need to be careful in these early stages. Your tendon is still knitting together. It seems you also have a good doc so that is a bonus. It also seems you are over the worst of it emotionally. Many of us have been there.

Ive never seen this before your blog went off a whole new topic for a bit.. This does not happen often. By the way since its your blog you can delete any comment specially if you feel its spam. Sometimes you get spammers advertising a random website or business.
There is an ATR new york marathon tracker . You fill in information about your atr then you and everyone else can track your progress much easier. You can find that in your dashboard. You can also change blog design.
Right now my AT feels tight and sore sometimes. .I feel my calf moving when I do the pump exercises on my injured foot, also i can flex it.

Stuart yeah surgeon said soon as i feel i can weight bare do it, i was walking with crutches then got fed up not being able to get a drink from kitchen to room so ditched them lol. im quite an active person and had a few surgeries in the past of which i seem heel very quick from. im only weight baring without the boot on a night in the house so its little but it feels fine.
Ali are you newcastle way then? happt heeling to you too, did NHS give you a boot or did u have to pay?
today im having a bad day with AT but i have been on my feet all day at work 9am till 8pm its actually my good leg thats suffering today taking most of weight, day off tomorrow so dvds with my daughter foot up hehe

Tara, just thinking I should have mentioned I needed the AirCast for 3 months + before the surgery, so it wasn’t given to me for the op. Also I will probably need it for the left one at some point
