7th Week Post ATR Surgery. No Boot!!

Today marks the 7 week anniversary of my ATR surgery. I went in for a checkup yesterday with my orthopedic surgeon and he told me I could stop wearing my boot! Great news for me, because even though I was starting to get around a lot easier in the boot (hiking, climbing, etc.), it was a pain to wear it all the time. I inquired about physical therapy and to my surprise he told me I didn’t need any. My tendon is still pretty weak, hence I cannot stand on my toes yet, but it doesn’t hurt to walk even though I have a slight limp. The doc said the strength would return with regular activity. One little bump in the road is a small infection at the very bottom of my scar. The placement of the incision, where the ankle bends by the heel, has prevented the incision to fully close and as a result an infection has set in. The past two weeks I have been washing it with hydrogen peroxide and I have seen small improvements. Other than that it seems as though I’m on the road to making a full recovery. I’m going to take it easy this week so the infection can subside and work on strengthening the tendon. I’m hoping in two weeks it will be strong enough to go for a run. Fingers crossed!
