First cast off….better than expected!

Well its been 3 weeks post op. I got my first cast off today, stitches out and got great news.  The doc said i was healing very nicely and decided to just put me into a boot with heel lifts instead of another hard cast! I was so happy. He is allowing me to put slight weight while using crutches and start to move it back and forth to regain some mobility.  Told me to just let my muscles do the work. No pulling or standing on it or use of towels or anything like that.  I can finally wash my leg which is great! Can almost enjoy showering again.  I go back in three more weeks and if he likes what he sees i may start therapy. Things are looking up.

    Wow, lucky you!
The full 9 weeks in cast really seem to have restricted my movement, although it is now slowly improving all the time.
If you’re already doing some movement you shouldn’t have that problem, but do be careful not to do too much too soon.
    Best wishes,

    Feedme-
It was a partial distal rupture…said it was about 90% but due to the fact they had to remove so much calcium from my heel bone, the surgeon completely detached my tendon from the heel and re anchored it with titanium anchors back to the heal bone. Guess I heal well because he was completely expecting me to be in a hard cast for a full 6 week. Can’t tell you how happy I am its going well. Hope your recovery does go smoothly and has similar recovery time as mine..which I hope stays on track and goes fast.

    Sam-
I can only imagine how 9 weeks in a cast could restrict your movement. 3 has made it hard on me. Pretty much everything from my knee down is sore, achy and tight. I’m very happy I do have the movement I do and will be working on it but certainly not trying to over do it. Just what my foot will do naturally for now until doc says different. wearing my boot anytime I’m on my feet even if its 10 feet I’m traveling just to be safe. Ive noticed my big toe is kinda stuck in a bent position and very tight along with all my areas. Kinda a funny looking and feeling. Hope your recovery goes very smoothly.
