Physio - Wednesday the 28th of August

Uneventful trip to the Physio today, all appears to be going well and my ankle has mobilised well.  ”It is about maintenance at the moment” so no need for me to go back for a further two weeks.  I have been given a number of core body & leg strengthening exercises to do and I have been given the responsibility of removing a further boot wedge next Wednesday.  A task I will take very seriously!

It seems to be a bit of a waiting game at the moment, as I rest my tendon is feverishly fixing itself…

Have been without Crutches for almost a week, for Monty Python fans out there I am applying to the Ministry of funny Walks!!

Off to the gym for some weights!!

  1. We should all start posting videos of our various walks and hops - we could out do Monty. I was specializing at the hop hop everywhere and my trainer expressed extreme concern that I was going to rupture my right achilles with the impact. That stopped me! Congrats on continuing to make progress and I really agree with your comment on my page - this really makes you appreciate what some deal with consistently.

  2. I was a fan of the hopping technique while still in a cast. I was clinging on to a bit of independence…. Although returning from the kitchen with a cup of coffee was still a challenge…….(Cling Film over the top of the cup, I impressed myself [no one else] with my own resourcefulness)
I get a dual perspective of the world at the moment as my height fluctuates by several inches with each step, causing seasickness in those trying to walk beside me :-)
Bending your knee on the good leg to compensate probably helps your back by keeping it more neutral but still makes you look ridiculous! However it is a big improvement over crutches (I was not a fan!)

  3. This height fluctuation could be worrying. Are you doing something to get your hips as level as possible - with a thick soled shoe or an even-up add-on sole for your normal shoe? I wasn’t conscious of this for 3 or 4 weeks -until I was hurting only on my good side.

  4. Hillie,
I follow the advice of Baz Luhrmann’s classic song (http://www.anysonglyrics.com/lyrics/b/bazluhrmann/everybodys.htm) and ……..

    “STRETCH”

Twice a day…. seems to be keeping the sciatic nerve pain at bay for now…

I am not saying I am vain, but one silly looking piece of footwear is about as much as I can cope with right now :-)
    Take care….

  5. I’m with Hillie on this one.

I went through all this a few months ago and that lop-sided walking might have looked hilarious to some, but to me it became a pain in the hip, and the (good sided) knee. Getting my hips and everything even made a massive difference. As for being vain - me neither….!
