“Ran” my first mile! 36 weeks post-op!
Well, I did it….although not very fast. I “ran” my first mile since the surgery on the treadmill last week.
I put it in quotations because it is not very fast and it is not full-out running. More like a slow jog sort of shuffling my feet - but I do get the heel-to-toe motion. My time was 13:26. Then I tried again a week later and my time was 12:55, so I am improving. I am not up to doing it everyday as I noticed I have been very sore the day afterward. The first time I tried to “run” was almost a month ago and I hurt myself and had to take almost a week off of doing everything - and was back to limping badly. I pushed it a little too hard.
I am very excited because I love to run and be active and these last 8 1/2 months have been hell for me! I think the key is to increase the activity level slowly and just try to be patient, although it is very difficult. I still have a long way to go but at least I am making progress!
Congratulations, that is a fantastic milestone. It won’t be much longer before you’re breaking your old record for the mile.

I am now recovering of the rupture of my two Achilles tendoms. The first one had surgery on september the 2nd and the second on November 29.
From the first one that was operated i´m still recovering, because it had to be operated again on November the 29 because I had a re rupture.
I never knew how could that have happenend since I was in a wheel chair for two months, because I had at the time both legs on a cast
To make this story short i´ve been in a wheelchair for 5 months and a half, one month with crutches and now i´ve started to walk since a month and a half ago.
I limp with my left leg and I walk very slow but fortunately with no pain.( I can´t believe to be standing)
To all people that go trough this difficult situation the only thing I can recommend is PATIENCE,lots of PATIENCE.
Now I´m doing a lot of swimming, and bycicle and although I feel i´m not improving as I expected my family perceives that my progress is enormous.
Probably I´m so eager to move faster and start playing golf again that I feel that each day is the same than the last one.
Anyhow I hope that on the week 28 of my left leg I will be able to start playin golf again.
Then my only advise I may give to all that go trough this long and boring surgery is to go slowly and lots of patience, there is no progress hurrying things. Good luck to all.
