Backwards Step & Drag

My milestone for this week was discovering that I can do a backwards step & drag.  For those of you who don’t do martial arts or boxing here’s what it is - imagine standing with your ATR foot behind you and your good foot in front.  Your back (ATR) turned sideway and the front foot is straight. They should look like the letter L.  Your opponent pushes you backwards with a power kick and you defend yourself by stepping backwards with your ATR foot and dragging your other foot backwards.

It was hard to concentrate on my technique when my mind was screaming DONT DO IT!  I had no pain or pulling and I realized that it was because of good technique that I didn’t do any further damage.

Next week my milestone will be going back to teaching karate on Tuesday & Thursday.

God’s blessings and my prayers for everyone’s healing.

Just don’t teach yourself to walk FORWARDS with your ATR foot splayed toes-out! It is AT-protective, but it can be hard to un-learn later. Or maybe you’re so conscious of your technique that you’re safe…

I noticed that I start to walk duck footed when I do to much, so I’ve been practicing to walk with my toes pointed straight. I focus on how my good foot behaves and make my ATR foot mimic it. I will do this both forward and backwards.
