I believe it’s the internal stitching or the knot they made to tie the stitching up, but there’s a definitive knob 3/4 of the way down toward my heel on my scar. It’s kind of off to the side of the noticeable scar, but still part of the scar no less. I asked my surgeon about it at my most recent follow-up on Jan 13th and he said that if it still bothers me in a few months, they can cut it out again….!!!! ahhh! another surgery, no thank you.
Does anyone know if this could potentially become an issue later on down the road?
The doctor said that it won’t become an issue physically, but if it bothers me mentally moreso that I could get it fixed up…
I had one of the stitches come through the surface before, so I just worry…will this giant knob be rejected from my body and try to push through my scar as well eventually?!
the thought of it just makes me cringe….
What do you guys think?

I finally checked back on this blog. It’s been awhile. I had surgery in august. Yes! I have that same knot. And I “spit a stich” at several parts of the incision line. The sutures were Vicryl. My incison line is not healed up at all. I wonder if it ever well. And I have to wear much larger shoes because of that knot too. Please post any information you find about this. My doctor also said there is surgery that could be done, but I simply can’t imagine doing that again! At first he said it may take 3 months for the knot to go away, but it never did. Now he says maybe a year. I don’t think he has any idea.
I have what I called a “golf ball” back there. It was described to me this way - when the tendon tore, it was like mop ends on both sides. So he kind of weaved the mop ends into each other, almost doubling the size of the achilles at that spot. It has gone down a bit (I’m at 8 months) but he said I’ll always have it.
SIGH~~~** today marks my 7 months post-op and it definitely feels like I still have far to go on the road to recovery. The knob really bothers be and the sensitivity of the scar frustrates me.. I can’t wear half of my shoes because it rubs on it…. I will definitely keep an eye out for more information on the knob situation guys!~~ And if you discover more, please let me know !
I have more info now about the knob. Mine is a keloid! Before it was spitting a stich and then called a lump abcess. Now the doctor says definitely a keloid so he is doing laser treatment on it. I’ll let you know if it works.
@pugnut68 — thats awesome. thanks for letting me know! i’ve heard of this keloid scarring where it’s raised instead of laying flat along your skin. please keep me posted on the laser treatment ! i hope it works for you!!!
