cast away
On Fri i went to the hospital to get my cast off. Insision is offset medially so as to prevent rubbing and nerve damage. I must say I was quite impressed with the scar. Looks alot better than I thought it would. Lots of muscle wasting. I have tried to add pictures but it doesn’t seem to work. If anyone knows how let me know. I have them in the media library. I have a gallery but cant put any in.
I go to physio on mon. I have the fowler kennedy protocol to follow. Active rom neutral to dorsiflexion inversion and eversion in neutral aswell. In vaco boot for 6 weeks with weight bearing as tolerated. Every hr i have dorsiflexed actively for 30 secs and it is much less painfull and i have move movement. I only go as far as feeling a pull. also doing lymphatic drainage which is a light technique to help with swelling and formation of scar tissue. Remarkable the difference from fri to sun!
I am also pretty much house bound. So much snow and wind. I have to get pulled in a sled to get to the car. We have another 20 cm on way tonight!! I will only go out with someone with me in case I fall. If it was summer I could get around and drive no problem
Has anyone tried tommy copper compression garments?

BTW, “the fowler kennedy protocol” = the UWO Protocol. Fowler Kennedy (IIRC) is the sports-med clinic at U. Of W. Ontario (UWO). I’ve posted it at bit.ly/UWOProtocol . They got excellent results in both groups (op and non-op), so nobody should go any slower, IMO. (Exeter is going a bit faster and getting results just as good, maybe better post-op.)
I’ve never posted pics here, but several people have posted pics AND detailed instructions. The first was chocolata ~3 yrs ago, and several people have made her way work. RyanB and KellyGirl have both posted lots of Pics and one of them may have posted instructions. A site search should find the tricks.

I have been a patient at the FK clinic in London when I went to school in London. L knee pre patellar bursitis and patellar #. If you go to their website and go to protocols you can get a copy of the achilles protocol that they use. I tried to get an appointment there to see Dr Willets? but I couldn’t get in till Jan. which would be a month to wait.
I saw a pos tabout dehyration and rerupture posted. I recommend to patients with fascial problems ( connective tissue) to stretch, drink water and wait 30 mins then warm up and exercise. fascia is 70 % water and works differently to muscle. it does have some coil but needs to be engaged and takes time to release. Have you heard to rolfing or structural intergration? Very effective in fascial restrictions and structural problems. I had a 12 session series from oct to dec and grew an inch! along with better posture etc…I am half way through taking the training at Kinesis in Maine. I hope i can continue the next session starts in April. I think it would absolutely help atr patients with compensation problems as well as injury site.
A good skiing year!!!!

1) That’s London ONTARIO (home of UWO), in case anybody’s confused.
2) That fascia stuff sounds remarkable!
