Week 3: Cast wasn’t fitting properly
September 10, 2008 by shelley
I got in to see the cast technician today and it turns out that my cast wasn’t fitting me properly, that is why my cast was rubbing against the incision. I didn’t want to go in for no reason, so I was glad when they said it was no big deal to change the cast and that I was right to come in if it was causing me pain. Good to know.
They discussed whether or not to try to push the foot up closer to neutral position, but I’m not close enough to the 4-week mark yet, so they decided to wait, and I will have to keep my appointment next week to get it to 90 degrees.
Here’s a picture of my sporty new look…

Hey Shelley, Lookin good!! The ortho tech’s in Sudbury are really nice so don’t worry about going in if you are ever not sure. I am doing PT 3 times a week right now and doing many different exercises. I warm up on the bike for 10 minutes, get an ultrasound on the tendon, a deep tissue massage to loosen up scar tissue and adhesions aroung the tendon (which hurts like @#$%#) and then a balancing exercise in which i transfer weight to the toes of my bad foot while standing on thick foam pads. The last one is really difficult because my calf has atrophied so badly that there is no strength to stand on the ball of my foot. I also have numerous stretching and strengthening exercises to do at home. I have been in 2 shoes yesterday and today and am really feeling it. My calf muscle is on fire and wants to take a day off. But no rest for the wicked right?? Anyway, I am off on another trip south this weekend (without the kids finally) so hopefully my leg will get some rest. Good luck in your recovery.
