12 weeks post op and full of questions
June 17, 2009 by scrpnfn
Yesterday I went in for my 12 week post op appointment. Initially the doc told me to bring a shoe and I would be walking away without my boot. Yesterday the doc said to begin transitioning from my boot to my shoe over the next 3-4 weeks. Work with physio on strengthening. No strenuous activities for 6-9 months, and then he released me, and said I only need to come back if there is a problem.
I feel like was thrown out into the ocean with little support. I’m sure my physio will be very supportive, but I still feel that I should be checking back in with the doc to make sure everything is okay, or am I being over cautious?
Please let me know what some of your thoughts are. THANKS
I’m not sure how things will work out for you, but my physical therapist is in contact with my doctor’s assistant in terms of my progress and the types of exercises I should be doing.
Find a good physio, and they will be your new support. Surgeons in general are more focused on cutting people open and sewing; physios’ whole job is rehabilitation. You’ll be in good hands.
I have same progress with you. 12 weeks post op. I also failed to attempt walk w/o boot. No worry. Physio told me this is normally progess. I need to practice more on one leg standing to strenthen mucle of problem leg. No hurry but Possitive think.
I can not stress positive thinking and a lot of determination enough on your part for your healing.
I am just over 12 weeks post op (surg. 4/6/09)and doing extremely well, I’m not running any marathons, but I am able to do pretty much everything I need to do. I owe it to my PT too who has worked with me to get me where I am. Listen, endure and stretch, stretch, stretch!
I’ve been out of boot for 6 weeks and in shoes, wearing sandals.
Hang in there.
