This site is great. I have been so discouraged since I ruptured my achilles, and it is nice to be able to correspond with others that are going through, or have gone through what I am. I am 10 weeks post op right now and have really had a sore heel, any thoughts or suggestions? I am still in a walking boot with a heel riser in it, but my heel gets so sore.

Hiya,
I am almost 12 weeks post-op and still get some heal pain (especially if I have been on my feet for more than 20-30 mins). The pain will reduce/subside. You basically need to train your foot to walk again (via a physiotherapist) and initially, due to ATR, you may be placing more weight on the heel than the rest of your foot. Furthermore, some muscles in the rest of your foot may need to be worked on before you can walk properly and pain-free. The physio should help to try and get your dormant muscles active again. Heel pain is common and will/should reduce with time.
Hey ask your doctor if you can start walking in the pool. This will decrease swelling, build muscle back and add range of motion. I am 7wks post and my doctor cleared me to go to the pool. The water takes the weight and gravity off your foot so you may be able to walk like you are the street. It may also take the soreness out of your heel. Good luck
Heel discomfort is pretty normal and a times quite painful. Elevation certainly helps. Pushing through normal discomfort helps in the long run. My PT said to get good shoes with good arch supports even inside. No more crocs for me. It helps! Just keep moving forward and doing whatever you can handle and you’ll soon be looking back and trying to remember when it was hard. Good suggestion above.
Put a nice cushy heel cup in your boot. That’s about all you can do for now.
