No More Shower Chair!! : )
April 13th, 2013
That’s right…..I took my first shower, in over two months now… standing up without the assistance of the shower chair! I’ve now loaned it out to another in need of the chair. Was a God-send while using it, but so happy I’m strong enough to STAND!!
I saw that KOBE BRYANT is probably going to join our ATR “club”. Boy, we feel his pain, right??? Hey Kobe, your peeps should join my peeps here on this amazing ATR Blog, to help you cope with this process you’re going to be going through on your recovery!! Come on, come on over …………

congratulations! i remember keeping a plastic chair in the shower, too. it was a weird feeling sitting down under the shower and figuring out how to soap the rear :).
…..thanks for the comment “Arielvit”. Hope you’re recovering nicely. I am so sorry about KOBE, he will be in our thoughts and prayers. Sure hope he joins this blog too. Would be fun to communicate with such a famous and fantastic Basket ball player.
Happy continued healing to all of us.
(I’m using a frozen bag of peas on my knee as I type, it is so swollen even after 2 months from my fall. : ( )
I recall how much an uplifting feeling it is when you are able to shower normally once again - congrats on reaching this stage, my wishes to you for a happy continued recovery.
SHower chairs rock in this instance! Was awesome being able to shower without worrying about pressure on the foot or falling over. Safety is key that early on
Thanks for posting your experiences on the blog. About 3 weeks post op and in the hard cast. Really feeling like a caged tiger at this point. It can be depressing to be very active one day and then laid up the next. Family has been great, but I have little guy’s that I coach that are becoming frustrated that I can’t do the things I have prior to the injury..
I am so looking forward to showering standing up!! Due to go 2 shoes on Thursday, I am excited but also apprehensive.. And so excited about being able to drive again soon, will get my freedom back. Not so excited about the fear of not being in a protective boot, and walking slower than I am now.. Have managed to perfect Norm’s going down stairs in a boot, much easier!!!
……my lil pity party I had this morning while at my PT appt. frustrated because I’m so swollen, can’t fit into my TWO SHOES comfortably yet, not allowed flip flops, wah wah wah THEN I GO OUT TO MY CAR AND HEAR ABOUT BOSTON! So sad, another senseless tragedy has happened in The United States of America, unbelievable. The Boston Marathon, where people train long and hard to attempt it, and some of our ATR members have run it or planned to run this marathon, and then BOMBS happen near the finish line. Oh Dear Lord. What a horrible horrible day. So my pity party is WAY OVER, and my thoughts & prayers going out to all who showed up in Boston to run, walk, watch, visit…..unbelievable.
One Year Ago!!
Yup…..it was one year ago today that I thought someone kicked me REALLY HARD on the back of my left ankle!! Never felt so much pain in my life. Yet here I am today so happy to be painfree, and 98% healed. Great surgeon, great PT, great husband / caregiver, greatful to have gone from NWB to boot, to NO crutches, to knee scooter, to two shoes, to walking and to One Year!! So glad I had this blog to turn to for my pity party, which turned in to more of a cheering squad for one another. I will return ever so often to read new updates, and of course the never ending New members that find “our achillesblog” here. Best of healing to all of us, each and every day. (((((Hugs)))))
